A group of 4 GoodGymers in Barnsley ran to Penny Pie Park to clear nettles and all sorts of evil spiky plants!

We welcomed Grace to the Barnsley gang, she's been to other GoodGym runs but this was her first one here with us back in her local town - so give her a big cheer.

Penny Pie Park recently had a grant which they used to improve the footpaths. The main path is made from recycled car tyres, with a tyre and a half recycled for every metre squared of path.. pretty cool way to use up old tyres. The bit we were clearing though, was in the nature area. A criss-cross of footpaths with nettles and a range of spiky green stuff encroaching and generally getting in the way.

I've been nettled!!! -Grace

With loppers and shears, we chopped our way through the nettles and cleared the area around all the little benches. We just about finished as it started to get dark - but there was enough light on the helipad to bosh through a 40/20 circuit session including:

  • Jumping Squats
  • Lunge & Twist
  • Frog burpees
  • Cardio Ladder Climbs

We all discussed our parkrun plans for the weekend whilst stretching off. Definitely headtorch time next week!
