Tonight marked the 1st Anniversary of GoodGym Crewe (well the closest Wednesday we could get to it anyway!) and what a year it’s been! We’ve welcomed lots of members, completed dozens of tasks, worked with lots of community organisations, made lots of new friendships, kept fit, served our community, and battled our way through COVID.

It’s been a pleasure and a privilege to lead GoodGym Crewe in all these amazing good deeds. I can hand on heart say that I’ve enjoyed every single task we’ve done and we’ve laughed our way through every one of them. GoodGym is our weekly fix of fun, fitness, friendship and the feel good factor. Every single member plays their part in making it the success that it is ❤

To name all the different tasks we’ve done and organisations we’ve worked with would be almost impossible but we’ve done tasks for schools, churches, community organisations, charities, housing associations, care homes and local residents and every one has been a privilege.

During the COVID lockdown period, some of our members gave up their time to deliver meals on wheels in the community and have continued in the role ever since.

I think it’s fair to say that GoodGym Crewe has positively impacted our local community - not just for the beneficiaries of the tasks but for every single member that has taken part.

I’m proud of what we’ve achieved and look forward to what the future has in store for GoodGym Crewe.

Tonight was no exception to the usual GoodGym fun & antics.

It had been raining hard all afternoon and when it still hadn’t stopped 45 minutes before our start time, I feared the worst! I thought this was going to be a GoodGym first - rain on a task night!! But the GoodGym weather gods didn’t disappoint (I should have had more faith!). The rain dried up just in time and left us with a beautiful rainbow!

5 of us got stuck in at the allotment, fixing panels on the raised beds and shovelling and barrowing soil.

We really noticed the difference with the nights drawing in and soon became reliant on our super powered lights - it didn’t deter us though and we keep on going until all the soil was shifted.

Maurice won the prize for dirtiest worker (again)!)

We achieved everything we set out to and probably even a bit more and as always, had fun and laughter in the process. All our efforts left us hungry and thirsty, so we toasted our hard work and 1st anniversary with a glass of lemonade and a donut! Yum!

Well done team. You were all amazing as always ❤️

It has been a privilege and a joy to be a part of the GoodGym Crew(e) for the last year. We have completed a huge variety of tasks and missions , many of which I never imagined would be possible. And none of it would have happened without our great team of volunteers. Special mention must be made of our team leader Nicola who is the most enthusiastic person I know. Nicola even managed to dig out some donuts and shortbreads last night! I never knew that they these can be grown in allotments ! Happy Birthday to all GoodGym members and here's to many more.
