A super six covered around 4km of running and smashed two tasks, helping paint at Melvin Hall and delivering flyers for King's Christmas Trees.

Everyone's a hero at GoodGym Bromley, but some take their heroism to another level. Our Heroes of October have excelled themselves in the areas of:

  • Being cheered: Bradley, 183

  • Cheering others: Bradley, 324

  • Distance covered: Bradley, 297km (he took a week off too!)

  • Good deeds: Louise, 10

It was in danger of being the Bradley show there, so very well done to Louise on all those good deeds! We also chatted about our upcoming Christmas social on December 6th, sign up here, so we know exactly how many to book for.

Before heading off to Melvin Hall, we did a quick warm-up, which included some dynamic stretches, perfect for firing up your muscles, ready to run (and for entertaining the cars stopped on Penge High Street). At Melvin Hall, we tip-toed in because of a very well-attended talk taking place in the main hall. Working our way around the side of the building, we found our room and gathered together the materials for the task. The paint had dried nicely since our last visit, but we still needed to reach the higher spots and to cover up some of the underlying colour, so got stuck in. For some reason (maybe too much trick-or-treat sugar, or bonfire brittle?) the energy was high and the humour was switched up a notch and it turned very 'Carry On' very quickly. Lots of puns and content came up for this run report, but much of it unpublishable!

We covered as much of the walls as we could and just had enough time to wash all our equipment before tip-toeing back to the front entrance. With tonight being Two-Task Tuesday, it was now time to share out the flyers and take to the streets - there was just no stopping us! The King's Christmas Trees project has now been running for ten years, selling trees locally and with all money made being used to fund a weekly feast for rough sleepers and vulnerable people for a whole year (last year 4500 three-course-meals were served). We had a big stack of flyers, so set off along the local roads, 'leap-frogging' around each other and regrouping along the way. We were surprised to have distributed most of the flyers, with just enough left to put out at our start point - really good work everyone!

Next week we have a brand new task! We will be helping down at the Salvation Army in Penge, clearing the rear entrance of weeds and making it more child-friendly for the playgroups that use it. We will also stay behind at our start point after the run, to celebrate a special birthday (Bradley is going to be 30!!), see you then!
