28 Runners ran between 4-8k to help 2 food growing projects in Camden.

On a night when we celebrated Axel Manzano's 50th GoodGym run and awarded him the coveted black tee shirt the GoodGym Camden Crew ran and helped 2 exciting food growing projects in Camden.

Warm up Twitchers

We warmed up on the street- drawing a few strange looks from local residents. Perhaps they couldn't understand why we were raising our arms while performing walking lunges....Anyway, we split into 2 teams- one heading north to the Royal Free and the other heading to Maiden Lane.

Food growing

We were off to help Transition Belsize and Maiden Lane Community Enterprises. The Transition movement- aim to create a network of vibrant local communities, encouraging local people to join in- growing and foraging food, and reusing and sharing resources. Maiden Lane Community Enterprise was formed to manage the green spaces on behalf of estate residents, they now manage a series of permaculture projects on the estate including relaxation and food growing areas, the Community Centre garden and roof, and an Orchard on the south of the estate.

2 tonnes of compost

Those who ran to the Royal Free had a big task- to shift 3 tonnes of compost to a food growing patch near the hospital. It was hard work- but they smashed it, moving near 2 tonnes in around 30mins. As the clock was ticking they had to dash for the exit but one group of faster runners still had time to dash over to Primrose Hill to fit in a hill sprint- mad!

Buddleia Removal

The group heading to Maiden Lane Estate had 2 tasks- to take out some soil from a broken growing bed, and to remove all the buddleia and nettles from gardener Les' edible growing bed. Despite a few nettle stings we smashed it- clearing the beds completely and moving the buddleia down into the orchard area. Nice work. We finished the evening off with some team fartlek on the way back to the canal- surging and jogging our way all the way back to Somers Town
