GoodGym hedge fun(d) and Fartlek
6 GoodGymers made their way 6.5km to help their local community in Croydon.
- Tuesday, 25th of October 2016
It was a longer run tonight to our task so we headed off at 7pm sharp towards south Croydon and over a lovely undulation to our destination – Waddon Youth Centre. Negotiating 4 layers of security and an alarm system we gathered up our tools and got to work pruning the hedges around the building and bagging up the waste. The cuttings were deceptively prickly as we discovered in the first few minutes – how we laughed! After we’d finished and locked up again it was back to base. To make a longer run a bit more fun and also improve our acceleration we took it in turns to shout FARTLEK loudly and we raced between the lamposts – great fun except in the street that only had a start lamppost and no more for what seemed like miles.
Congratulations to two of our runners who took part in the Great South Run this weekend and were having a well deserved rest tonight – well done Rachel and Zoe. Also a big cheer for Dom who has completed his GoodGym training and a Leadership in Running Fitness course which means he can now lead runs or a sub-group within a run. To celebrate his achievement he led on the way to the task and also took the warm-up.
Next week we will be heading to Thornton Heath for som planter and large pot tidying and watering so don’t forget to sign up here
