THREE runners went to Glen Gardens to help their amazing group of volunteers.

We were met by Adi, who help coordinates the Friends of Glen Gardens group. She had very helpfully sprayed all the bad bits with yellow spray so we knew which were weeds and which were plants. Very useful because we are far better at destruction than horticulture. Our highly physical team was given the task of pulling up all the brambles and nettles from one patch and digging it over.

Once we boshed that, we moved on to an epic ivy clearance task. The ivy had spread so far and wide that the roots seemed to spread for miles. It was intertwined in the bushes, around the trees and the outer fence.

We forked and dug and tugged as much as we could, clearing the lot in about an hour. The lovely Glen Gardens crew then rewarded us with a well earnt cuppa and a biscuit!

This will improve the access to a dedicated green space for autistic children and young adults . Many struggle to leave the home due to high anxiety. This wild place can give them to space to relax and garden with their families.
