Gimme Gimme Drawer, Gimme Drawer, Gimme Gimme Drawer

On a quite frankly miserable Wednesday evening, Cookie and I braved the drizzle and wind of Storm Dudley to lend a hand (or four) for Mrs S.

I was greeted by Mrs S’s husband, Mr E, who invited me in to shelter from the storm while we waiting for Jonathan to arrive. He explained that Mrs S had been in hospital since November, and that they were hoping to get Mrs S home soon. We chatted about the good bits and the bad bits of the NHS, before a windswept Jonathan arrived.

Mr E showed us upstairs to the bed in question that would need moving to make space for a hospital one instead. He wasn’t sure how we would move it, and put his faith in our capable hands…

Now Jonathan and I have moved several beds together. We are basically unpaid professionals at bed moving. The mattress came off easily, and what we thought could be a potentially tricky pull apart of a divan turned out to be a simple push, and like that we had the bed disassembled.

We took the drawers out, and found long lost treasurers that were hidden in the divan boxes… some micropore tape and dressings, and a hand knitted jumper from Mr E’s mother! ‘That’s from about 40 years ago’ he explained, before adding that it hadn’t been hiding under the bed for 40 years!

Cookie and I then manoeuvred the two divan boxes, the four drawers and the mattress up the mini stairs to the spare room, and played a neat game of bed Tetris to fit it all in.

Mr E was very grateful for our help. It didn’t take long, but our helping hands (and soggy feet) made light work of it, so hopefully Mrs S can get home soon and back to her loving husband.
