Today’s cycle round Beckton and the Royal Docks was to drop off prescriptions for Mr P and Mrs E. Always keen to explore a more scenic route if possible, I found that Mr P lives even nearer Mr A’s splash pool than Mr A and the splash pool in turn is near the Woolwich ferry crossing. I was interested to read recently that the ferry is the only commuter service that Transport for London is legally obliged to run, which dates back to an 1885 act of parliament committing to the provision of a free crossing of the Thames in this part of London. The modern day service is actually two ferries, and I passed just as they were doing something like a do-si-do in making the short trip across the river.
