I started off flying solo on a tree planting mission in Tottenham on Saturday, but although I was the only GoodGymer in attendance I was joined by Quentin from Friends of the Earth and Pamela and Judith from Friends of Tottenham Green.

The order of the day was to dig a big hole to plant a rowan, which will be the start of a wildflower meadow outside of Tottenham Green leisure centre.

Quentin got busy with a pickaxe and the rest of us scraped the rubble out of the hole. There were a lot of bricks and roof tiles which Judith said were probably remnants from houses bombed in WWII. Local history lesson!

We got the tree into the hole and attached it to its stakes. Filling the hole was a lot easier than digging it but left everyone with very muddy shoes!
