Report written by Pete
10 GG Yorkies had made their way from various locations by bike or foot to all converge at Hartrigg Oaks - a Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust Community which helps to provide a stimulating environment and high quality care to those in their advanced years.
We were met by the wonderful Tracey - an obviously tremendously committed and hard working individual who had helped set up the mission. When we arrived it was obvious she didn’t quite know what to expect but she had games and residents primed; although quite what the 10-15 residents who were waiting for us thought of red T-shirt clad and possibly slightly sweaty individuals remained anyone’s guess.
We all separated ourselves amongst the residents and kept them entertained with chat and novel takes on various different games. Egg and Becky looked like they were not holding back with the variety of games over on their table whilst Leanne had her very own take on the rules of Jenga!
It was wonderful to see the residents get involved and they came with their own stories and characters and our time was obviously much appreciated. Not only that but with tea and a biscuit thrown in what’s not too like. On the walls were various pictures of old time York and some time was spent just chatting about old times and the history of New Earswick and the Joseph Rowntree Trust. With the residents exhausted from our enthusiasm and some having had a nightcap we departed our separate ways. Sadly this was in one of our last missions of 2018 with just one final social before seeing out the year, although primed to do hit the ground running with more goodness in Jan.
Happy Xmas to all Goodgymers everywhere!
