Two sleeps after the Snowdogathon runners could still feel the aftermath of the Snowdog trail run in their legs, alas, we had brave souls who just can’t get enough of GoodGym and made an appearance nonetheless.

Excitement was very much brewing in the hall of Yr Hen Lyfrgell where we all gathered ready for our 6.30pm start… Wahooo! GoodGym runners… are you ready? Gladiators are you ready?? (Oh, that’s a bit of a throwback). We then all headed outside to warm up, although ironically it is beginning to feel a little colder outside.

We began our warm up - it felt great to stretch our legs! We then did our headcount and also announced our favourite desserts… there were pavlovas, cheesecakes, carrot cakes, sticky toffee puddings. YUM!!! Running regularly means we can be a little bit naughty from time to time ;) (No newcomers this week, which meant there were no red laces distributed – Come on guys… who’s going to be the next person to get a red lace?)

Without further ado let’s head to the Samye Mindfulness and Wellbeing Foundation, John, Lorraine, Mary and Richard are expecting us!

With Ben leading and Lucy backmarking we made our way through the streets of Cardiff. We passed by Cardiff Castle, then the animal wall and continued up Cowbridge road. Runners were maintaining a great pace tonight! Emma mentioned that she has noticed herself improving in her fitness week on week (We salute you!)

We’re here!!!!

Caught off guard by our speedy arrival, Yin and Mary were chilling on the wall outside. They got up speedy fast, greeted us and welcomed us we all reached the centre.

Your task will be to lift all of the bricks in the marked chalk area and move them in the wheelbarrow to the back of the building.

Mary’s instructions were clear and we got straight to it! With Martin at the helm of the wheelbarrow and runners lifting the bricks the task was well underway. The speed runners were working at though mean that most of the bricks were lifted in 5 minutes and the wheelbarrow couldn’t cope with the demand.

Time for a rethink!

Quick thinking from clever minds and the ingenious idea to form a human chain came about. Bricks were passed from person to person starting at the front of the building and finishing at the back. Hundreds of bricks were passed along the human chain! We could have built an Egyptian pyramid in only a matter of hours with how effective the chain was working.

Two more tasks for you guys!

  1. Could you help us move this big yellow bag of rubbish please?
  2. Could you please help us move all of the paint outside?

The answer to both was YES! Both tasks were completed in quick succession.

3 Minutes to go!

After all the bricks had been lifted some of the runners began filling up buckets with sand which was underneath the bricks and taking the filled buckets to the back of the building (They may have made sand castles too – Unable to resist the temptation!).

The riddles this week!....

  1. What is only word in the English language that has three double letters in a row?
  2. What never asks questions but is always answered?

Think you know the answers? Post your answers in the comment section at the bottom of the page.

Time is up! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Lorraine, John, Mary and Richard were so impressed with everything we managed to do in 30 minutes. They offered us water to rehydrate and reminded us of the mindfulness event that we could go to as a way of thanks for our help and then waved us goodbye.

On the way back we planked... fashioning some quite sexy shapes in the process... holding one arm in the air, then the other arm, and then alternate legs! This allowed everyone to regroup.

The final sprint we gave our all... Fliss, the star that she is, set it as a segment on Strava too! Kudos to Fliss!!!

We have a Group Run this Saturday folks!!! Sign up to it now by clicking here!
