9 people ran 6km and helped clear leaves and weed at clockhouse community centre.

It was week 2 in the life of GG Greenwich and we had a nice run and task to celebrate.

Clockhouse Community Centre

After stowing our bags away in the lockers were made for the river where we ran roughly 1km to Clockhouse Community Centre. We were greeted by Shaku and Malcolm who showed us through the centre into the back garden.

They needed some help with the garden in the beds surrounding the edge. Theyre keen for our help with the plot in the future- it has a lot of potential but needs a spruce up and its hard for the staff to find time to do it. If we can help it should allow them time to focus on other things such as 'back to work' schemes, parent and toddler groups and keep fit classes.

Leaf it out

So we all donned some gloves, grabbed a rake and started pulling up leaves and weeds along the fence.

It was at this point that Malcolm revealed the game changer.....the leaf blower. In my 3 years at GoodGym the most advanced piece of equipment Ive been trusted with is a screw driver. Unfortunately I didnt even get to use it as Joan, Rob and Anna quickly sucked up all the available leaves.

The rest of us stuck to the beds and within 30mins we had cleared much of the area.

Animal Park loop

We waved goodbye to Malcolm and ran off on a 5km run home. This took us up and over Maryon Animal Park, a hilly little vista in Charlton. I can see it being a fantastic place for some GoodGym hill sessions in the future! Who wouldn't want to be cheered on by goats as you bust a gut to reach the hill summit! We arrived back to the Waterfront at 8.30pm- sweaty, tired and pleased with a good evenings work. Nice one.
