I started my day with a mission to help out up some new blinds for Mr K. Between him and his friend P, they had been unable to get the blind fittings fixed in place, and he had unfortunately been unwell and gone into hospital in the mean time. P explained that they wanted the blind sorted for when Mr K got back, as the flat looked right out into the sun, and was blinding. Time for me to get blinding then!

I entered the kitchen and could see the problem. Normally good light isn’t a problem, but the sun was shining in and I almost felt the need to put my sunglasses back on again! Up the step ladder, and I did some investigations, wishing that I’d researched ‘how to fit blinds’ prior to coming.

Luckily, it seemed to be an easy enough job. The two plastic brackets needed to be screwed in to the wooden lining at the top of the window. P provided with with a hammer and a screw driver, and soon the brackets were in place.

We went to put the roller blind in, however, the brackets were slightly too far apart. So a quick unscrew, a wiggle inwards, and it was time for take two. Regrettably, we were now too close, so the blind wouldn’t fit in.

They say third time lucky, and just like with Goldilocks and the three bears, we had got it just right, and the roller blind sat beautifully into my brackets. I went to unroll the blind, but the chain mechanisms didn’t appear to be working. So back down the blind came again, and a bit of a jiggery-pokery, the chain was moving freely. For the final time, the blind went up and with a flourish, the roller blind went down!

A quick game of up and down, I was happy with the blind I had fitted. P was also very happy with the job done, and the room was now bathed in a beautiful daffodil yellow glow (very apt for St David’s Day today), and you could see without fear of being blinded!

What a blinding job I’d done, if I do say so myself.
