Kudos to the GGers who turned up on a very drizzly evening to make a real difference on the South Bank! It's definitely not easy to leave the warmth, grab a litter picker and battle the growing wind to collect litter, but that's exactly what a group of GGers did last night. It was especially lovely to welcome Kisanet to her first ever group session - we loved having you join us!
We met underneath the London Eye, where the conditions weren't too bad. So we began our tour of the area, collecting bottles, packets and the dreaded cig butts as we went.
Despite the growing gusts and transporting the increasingly heavy bags the time flew by, helped along by our wide ranging conversation - we covered everything from squirrels and vitamin supplements to feminism and the joys of hand sanitiser!
Before long we were racing after bottles rolling in the wind and struggling to keep our bin bags open so we called it a day. Great job everybody. I believe that as well as the inherent good of less rubbish on the street, litter picking also encourages others to take pride in their city and hopefully has a knock on effect!
Next Tuesday we have another really rewarding task handing out food and sorting donations for rough sleepers. I'd love to see you there!
