One Sunday our help was requested by a friend’s grandfather, a charming 92-year-old who plays the harmonica and paints. He had big plans to replace the washing up bowl that was stuffed into the group with a ‘proper pond’. We dug deep into the slight sludge, created by the repeated rainfall resulting in a wet back garden with little chance of draining. After 2 hours we managed to dig an appropriate sized excavation, dig up any flowers he wanted to keep and then place in the pond. He was pleased! We had to fill it with water from the water but, which took a pretty half an hour, but at least the frog spawn and other frogs we saw will be happy with their new habitat. We placed rocks around and in the pond so that the frogs would be able to climb out with ease. We are on the hunt for some algae to make the water nice. Time to rest my back now.
