Today was the launch of Derby's walking festival, but you'd be forgiven for thinking you'd walked onto a film set with so many superheroes present, including the Mayor, and our very own Gort!

We were given a warm welcome by wonder woman Katy from Move More Derby, and provided with our (high-viz) capes giving us the power to control traffic as we guided the batmobiles into their parking spaces.

With the help of a super treasure map, our hardy band of heroes, including the spectacular spiderman, searched Mickleover Meadows for stones, rocks and pebbles, all beautifully decorated, spelling out a coded message that would have confused even the riddler himself. We spotted a little wildlife on the way; there was a bat box and a bird box (where robin lives?).

With 150 registered attendees, the event was a hulking success, and a fitting way to celebrate the life of a turtley awsome superhero, Sam Liew. Daisy, Sam's dog, (with more than just a little help from Sam's Mum, Rachel), runs the charity Sam's Superheroes. Their fundamental aim is to spread kindness. They certainly achieved that with this marvelous inaugural event of the 2022 walking festival. Please check out their website for upcoming events.

To bring us back to earth after the event, Gwyn led a bionic 5k fitness session around the meadows, where he and Tracey enjoyed revisiting the pebbles and admired the BMX track that had been the focus of a previous community mission.

Many thanks to Ashley for some cunning punning!
