12 lovely litter-picking runners ran 5km (just about!) to pick up rubbish around North Greenwich!

So last night we were supposed to go back to the Greenwich Scouts and do some gardening for them, however unfortunately the task was cancelled at the last minute, I got the message whilst I was on my bike riding to meet you all!! So a little bit of freestyling was in order! I frantically cycled to Sainsbury's local for some rubber gloves so we could do a bit of litter picking, but they didn't have any! Then tried the Co-Op, no luck again and then finally popped into a random little cornershop and they had some, hooray! Thanks so much for your patience guys, I know it wasn't what you expected but thanks for all being so great and going along with it anyway!

Anyway on a more positive note, we had our biggest turn out yet!!! YIPPEE!! 12 in total, amazing! We also welcomed a few new faces to the family: Alex's twin bro Steve and Simon who has just moved into the area! We were also joined by the lovely Louise and Sarah's friend Gabby!, thanks for spreading the word Sarah!! And finally Ruth from GG HQ who is trying to visit all the GG boroughs! Welcome everyone!!

CHIPS & GRAVY

The warm up had a tasty twist this week! We played a game called Chips & Gravy where you run around and when you run near someone you pair up with them, each count to three and shout out loud either "chips" or "gravy" and if you both say the same one then you continue running, but if you both shout different ones then you both have to do 3 burpees! So much fun, I was actually cracking up watching you guys haha! So after a few minutes of that, it was safe to say you were quite warm and possibly even a little bit hungry...

Sweaty glove distribution

After we were nice and warm, the gloves were distributed and we set off. Unfortunately I hadn't thought quite enough ahead to provide bin bags for you guys, so we had to make do with a carrier bag and the bins on our journey! Again, thanks so much for your patience everyone, I know it wasn't ideal!

We ran along the river for a bit and then Louise kindly pointed out that the Thames Path was shut so we were put on a little diversion. But there was plenty of rubbish to be picked along the way! The bag was getting filled pretty quick but luckily there were quite a few bins that I could empty it into! We found a decent patch that was VERY litter-ridden and managed to fill up a load of bags with rubbish. We jogged to the nearest bin, got rid of it all and then headed back to base camp for the fitness session.

Circuits!

This week, we did a 4 station circuit. Station 1 was squat jumps (really great for firing up those glutes), Station 2 was Russian twists (great core exercise), Station 3 was plank with shoulder taps (another great core exercise!) and Station 4 was a fast run around the block! People were numbered 1 to 4 and were put in their stations accordingly! The idea was, everyone would complete the exercises until the runners had finished their run around the block, and once they were back, everyone would progress to the next station! Some very speedy runs out there I must say!

After the circuits, we all got in a nice big circle and enjoyed a lovely stretch before we parted ways.

Thanks so much guys, you all did amazing and I am sorry the task fell through at the last minute. Next week we are going back to the Montessori so it should be a little more organised, but thank you for being so great as always!!! See you next week!
