This week we ran to Abbey Community Centre to help clear the community garden. Joanna from the centre was keen to tidy the place up a little and start making use of the garden beds surrounding the lawns. She is hoping to get a group of local children to start growing food in the beds this week. Its brilliant that we could help them out.

"Joanna...is hoping to get a group of local children to start growing food in the beds this week"

We ran 5k up to Abbey Road including a climb to the top of Primrose Hill, discussing up and downhill running technique on the way (tight compact arm swing, and high knees going up, wide arms and fast heel lift on the way down). An especially big cheer goes to Rebecca for conquering the hill despite her misgivings!

"It’s amazing what you can achieve in 30 minutes!"

When we arrived we downed a few pints of water and set about the task. In small teams we raked the lawn for stones, dug 2 beds, shifted some sacks, trimmed some bushes, and pulled up some weeds. It’s amazing what you can achieve in 30 minutes! We made light work of the raised beds, and chopped back the creeping bushes, with Elena and Francesca showing handy skills with the shears. Preparing the lawn was tough but Emma, Emily and Dave’s aggressive scarifying got the job done.

"the pack worked like a peloton- sticking together as we made our way past Regents Park"

The task was pretty much non-stop so the 5k run home was a challenge. That didn’t stop Tom putting the burners on and kicking for home with 2k to go! The rest of the pack worked like a peloton- sticking together as we made our way past Regents Park and back to the Centre. We all arrived back at the centre elated that we had covered 10k and had made a difference in Kilburn. Nice one.
