4 lovely GG Yorkies headed back to Naburn to continue the fab work started earlier in the week. Our goal this time was to cover the bug hotel with compost to insulate and encourage other species of wildlife.

Working in pairs, we alternated between wheeling barrow-loads of “mud” up from a nearby farm (we were suspicious as to what this compost was created from) and shovelling, then scattering, stones to make pathways around the site. Both activities proved to be a decent work out. Nicola excitedly planned to run the full wheelbarrows back before actually realising just how heavy they were. Stone diggers had their jobs made trickier by the local stone-obsessed pooch, so half the time you were not only shovelling stones, but also a dog who insisted on putting its paws in the shovel. Meanwhile, Ellie found the local sheepdog and managed to snap some selfies. #priorities.

The task abruptly ended when we found ourselves locked out of the farm where the compost was (much to Nicola’s upset), but by that time the bug hotel had a decent covering. After removing the inch of mud on the bottom of our shoes, and storing the tools away, it was time to head home. Job done!
