The morning began when 6 Goodgymers and one dog met up at Bexley parkrun. It was a lovely day and none of us were quite expecting the weather to be as warm as it was 🥵 We made our way to The Stables in Danson Park to enjoy a post run coffee and breakfast before making our way to the Community Mission at the Welling Salvation Army.

Upon arrival we were made very welcome, and the building soon became very busy with other volunteers. We all signed in and grabbed all the equipment we needed. There was a great effort being made to try to recycle as much of the litter as possible so we allocated the bags out between the team

  • Paper
  • Plastic/Cans
  • Glass
  • General rubbish

We were then allocated an area which was ours to clear of litter and as we left the building we had the Mayor of Bexley join our GG team!

As we made our way to our allocated road, it was hard not to give the other teams a helping hand and pick up some of the litter on the way. Our allocated road was actually quite clear of litter so went went a little of piste on the way back to base in order to litter pick some more.

Back at the Salvation Army, a team of volunteers has put on a spread of cakes, sandwiches and hot drinks. There was also lots of information about litter and the local area, and a chance to leave feedback. After a chat and some tea and cake, we said our goodbyes and made our way home.

It was a great morning, full of community spirit. We look forward to helping out with Progressive Welling again.
