On an unexpectedly sunny and fresh evening, we shovelled up to the 2nd Mortlake Scout Group, greeted by a masked crusader and excitable co-pilot and soon forked out to various tasks in need of tending.

The community centre which was about to once again see four hundred of Mortlake’s best scouts, dancers, ping pong players come through its doors each week (whoe!) was about to be given a full sweep. The first brownie points went to an enthusiastic lone ranger volunteering to put some furniture together inside, while with ballet like flexibility and grace, another took on a front runner paint job. That left a remaining fab four to tackle the unwanted green growth with sections marked by tool sets so that we could each work in areas where there wasn’t much broom to manoeuvre. It didn’t take us long before weed able to make quite some rewarding progress and with a bit of good sense badgering, it was soon clear just how much working effectively together can accomplish. Think we bagged this one, once again. And with hearty thanks and promise of cake next time, we rode and ran off into the sunset.
