This morning we helped install an irrigation system in the Community Garden in Park Hill Rec

This morning we met up at the Shelter in Park Hill Rec where Josi from the Friends of Park Hill Rec explained our task for the morning. The Community Garden only has one source of water which makes it difficult for the volunteers to keep the entire garden watered throughout the spring and summer months. Hosepipes of varying lengths and conditions and a number of connectors had been donated and our job was to link them together and feed the hosepipe along gullies, over gates, through ivy and a very long hedge to the far end of the garden. Sounds simple….. there were a few technical hitches but brute strength and ingenuity won the day and there was great excitement when the water was turned on and 40 seconds later appeared at the top of the garden. This should save the backs of some of the regular volunteers – a great job done by all.

After we’d finished we had a gentle run to the bottom of the park, did some warm-up exercises then headed off for a couple of laps of the park. Our plan was to finish up with some hill sprints but just as we were heading towards the hill I’d earmarked the heavens opened and we decided that the hot drinks and snacks Josi had waiting for us in the Shelter were more appealing

The Starter sessions are to introduce new runners to GoodGym and give them a chance to see what we do and also to tell them about Coach run and Missions. So we were happy to welcome Nick, Chloe, Zara, Elli and Isabel to the GoodGym crew where they were able to chat to the regular runners – it was great to meet you all and hope to see you again soon.

This Tuesday’s run will be to Grangewood Park – so sign up here

Looks like we’ve got another Starter session on the Bank Holiday – Monday 29th of May in Heathfield Gardens and I’ll post the details as soon as possible.
