Another gorgeous summer eve with the crew. New project up Wanstead way, The UP garden, we went to help out and see what it's all about.
Kev and Shaz met us there, where we got a fantastic intro from Suzanne. Completely of her own initiative she's aiming to develop a derelict spot into a community garden. The word inspirational comes to mind, it's a real of perk of GG, meeting folks like this and witnessing first hand how to make these projects happen.
Must say, I'm very impressed with the work done, just the six of us, but boy did we get a chunk done. 43 heavy bags of shingle moved. Plus several planters moved to a new location. We ran back the scenic way - noting how close Kev and Shaz live. Great to see a different neck of the woods.
We'll aim to give regular support here now we know where it is and what it's about. Perhaps we can motivate a few old members to get stuck in - and a few new ones.
Next week we're at West Ham Park - sign up here
Till then

We are transforming a 900sqm disused laundry yard in a council housing estate into a free-to-access community garden and play space focussing on upcycled materials. It will be a place for everyone to learn about gardening, biodiversity and eco-sustainability in a social environment, whilst the open play space will include play equipment that – unlike typical playgrounds – has multiple uses to encourage creative interaction. Together, they provide different levels of exercise, and the opportunity for our younger and older generations to socialise outdoors, improving physical and mental health.
