Under an almost full moon, eight eager athletes ticked off a bumper fitness session at Crystal Palace Park.

What do you do when your task has to be postponed at the very last minute, with no time to arrange an alternative? Have an extra long and extra challenging fitness session of course! Before we embarked on our Workout Extreme, we celebrated our Heroes for September. Being a relatively new area, we are growing all the time, but it does mean that we're still getting the hang of cheering, linking our Strava profiles and joining in with those extra good deeds, such as missions and coach running. That doesn't mean we don't have plenty of heroes in our midst though! You might notice that the leader board leaders were all absent today though, possibly due to overdoing it in the goodness department.

  • Most good deeds for September - joint first place goes to Louise, Stuart, Laura and Tony, with three deeds each

  • Furthest distance covered - Elly, with 53.6km (and she was away for much of September!)

  • Most cheers received - Elly again, with 24

  • Most cheers given - Nicola, with 6

It's great to be celebrating already, but I do think we can fill up that leader board a bit more in October, can't we?! Come on, get cheering!

With our task on hold until next week, we had the opportunity to really explore the wonderful Crystal Palace Park, starting off with some games to warm up, before heading out - with the help of a couple of head torches - towards a lovely little hill. Thinking about our running form (high in the hips, lifting our knees and feet, driving our arms), we tackled this sharp incline four times, with 'hot coals' under foot. Continuing our run up and over, we made use of another little hill, pairing up to enjoy a strength-training/hill-running relay.

With a pause to catch our breath and enjoy the view of the moon...

Being over on this side of the park and having more time than usual, we got to embrace the wonderful steps that link the terraces here (which Tim pointed out are listed, yes, we have a better class of fitness apparatus here in Bromley, you know!). With the tower of the Crystal Palace Transmitter in the background, we bounced, stepped and bounded up the steps, jogging back down for recovery. This park has everything!

Passing by the sports centre, we looked over to our left to see an energetic game of beach volleyball taking place, before hopping down some more steps to round off our session with some push-ups, tricep-dips and our challenge for the month, #planktober (I have no idea why some people thought I was making this up, it's been going for three days now...in my living room). Getting down with enthusiasm (and possibly getting covered in grass, but who knows, it was pitch black by now), we did 30 seconds front plank and 30 seconds on each side...really, by November we will have abs of steel!

See you next week to get going on our toilet revamp? We will also be hearing about Stuart's first ever 10k race at the Petts Wood 10k this Sunday and you can also hang around afterwards for a bit of food and a drink at the Bridge House, where we will have a little social.

Talking of socials, Thursday is the monthly GoodGym social, a chance to meet people from other areas, hear all about what's been happening in the past month and to vote on the International Pun of the Month (which I'm pretty sure we must get shortlisted for this time!). Sign up here if you can make it.

  • Please note the glaring absence of a group photo. Gasp! We will make up for this oversight next week, by having only group photos :)
