Tonight we ran between around 4km to help the local Salvation Army

Poundland are doing a roaring trade courtesy of GoodGym Croydon as many of the group donned their headtorches for the run down to the Salvation Army tonight.

We headed along George Street to the underpass and onto the Salvation Army in Booth Road. Once we arrived we got straight on with the job in hand. Splitting into teams to spray, wipe then buff up the windows of the building. There were a few bemused looks from some of the users who weren’t all aware of who we were and what we were doing – we obviously looked harmless enough though as nobody asked us to leave! It took less than 30 minutes to complete our task which meant more time for the fitness session – the runners were so pleased!

This week was a circuit with eight stations designed to work most of the major muscle groups as well as some balance work. After the first circuit there was some hill running concentrating on form rather than speed although as ususal it did get a little competitive! There was still some time after the hills so we completed another circuit – would have been rude not to really! Then a gentle run back to Solutions for a stretch and chat about the best type of running shoes and where to buy them without spending all your savings.

Don’t forget our social on Friday 7th of October at SmoothBean – an evening of jazz, cheese and wine. It’ll be around £10 a head and Dom and Laurence have organised a table and cheese and wine for us.

There’s also the Croydon 10k on Sunday 9th of October. I think a few may have signed up and I’ll be marshalling so let me know and I can give you a big GoodGym cheer.

Next Monday is World Mental Health Day and GoodGym is part of a campaign with England Athletics and Mind to raise awareness. As part of this all the GoodGyms next week are being labelled as “#runandtalk” starter sessions to encourage new runners to give it a go. The run is of course still open to everybody as normal.

Here is the link to sign up to next week’s run.
