Getting Ourselves in a Sticky Situation!

Once again we returned to the lovely Nunsmoor Park for Volunteer Day.

As always, the morning was all planned out so when I arrived a little early, Alison (from Nunsmoor Park) and I just needed to get the tools from the lock up and be ready to greet the others. We were soon joined by Evan and then by Andrew and Emily who had just completed Newcastle parkrun. The four of us focused on the Bike Garden area while other volunteers went to the park entrance.

The tasks were:

• Remove the sticky jack from the beds around the garden
• Cut back overgrown weeds and bushes
• Remove the ash tree saplings from main pathways
• Dig up and pot two rowan trees to be planted elsewhere in the future

Andrew and Evan made a dream team - as always - and began to clear up the Sticky Jack weeds. They were also great wheelbarrow bin men.

We need to come up with a jingle!

Emily cleared a pathway behind the metal containers where children liked to play. It was becoming dangerous because it was so overgrown, but she soon had it looking great again, with just the little purple harmony flowers left! After February's Volunteer's day, I figured I knew how to take out the trees so got on with that. When we were both done, we joined Evan and Andrew to do some of the weeding.

By 11:30, the place was looking much tidier and though I had to jet off for birthday celebrations, Emily, Evan and Andrew stayed for a well-earned cuppa!
