Community mission

Making a home for the Butterflies

With Friends of Ham Lands, we will be improving the Butterfly habitat

This is a community mission, a community led session where you will meet other GoodGym members at the task. Please make yourself known to anyone in a GoodGym top when you arrive. As with all GoodGym sessions we encourage you to use the power of your legs to get there, i.e. run or walk if you can.

Every second Saturday of the month Friends of Ham Lands and volunteers meet to work on this worthwhile project of improving the Butterfly habitat on Ham Lands and for a few months now GoodGym have been offering a helping hand.

On 14th December we will be cutting back encroaching scrub to maintain sheltered open grassland areas and open woodland which are attractive to butterfly’s, and also maintaining some of the small footpaths through the scrub that are in danger of being overgrown. Areas where this is necessary have been identified by local naturalists and the Council’s ecology officer.

The mission will run from 10am until 12pm (or as long as you can stay). We meet at Riverside Drive by the footpath to Teddington Lock.

If you got gloves, secateurs, saws and gloves please bring them and wear working clothes including strong and waterproof footwear.

Date and time

10:00am - 12:00pm Saturday, 14th of December 2019

As you will make your own way to the task, feel free to walk or run as you wish.

New to GoodGym?

This is a GoodGym group run, where we run to help a local community organisation and then run back.

New runners are welcome to GoodGym group runs - no one gets left behind. You're unlikely to be alone, hundreds of new people sign up every week.

There's a place to leave bags and a toilet at the start point, all you need to do is bring your trainers. It's free to try - get involved!
