6 sturdy Good Gymers donned rubber gloves and tackled The Rainbow Junktion Cafe’s mission of deep cleaning and reorganising their kitchen. The team tackled the task in shifts and worked alongside volunteers and management of the cafe. The Rainbow Junktion team made us welcome, gave us tasks to do and offers of tea, coffee and flapjack.

The First shift started at 9.30 working Aron and George tackled started on the immense job of cleaning the kitchen, Helen and Jenny unpacked, sorted and cleaned all the cutlery. Helen was surprised by some super sized onions.

“We used vinegar as our main cleaning fluid which got some of us dreaming of chips “

The second shift started at 11.00. George and Aron carried on with their tasks George cleaning the big hood over the cooking range until it shone and Aron wiping walls and surfaces until clean and shiny. Liz took on the challenge of cleaning cupboard shelves and revealing the whiteness that had been buried under labels and grime. Phil meanwhile cleaned the kitchen windows, the cafes windows, the entrance windows........ every window infact.

“Liz asked her husband Phil if he knew he’d married a scrubber”

The 11.00 team left at 1.00 just a new set of volunteers arrived and they carried on the great work the Good Gym team started.
