17 Do Gooders run to The Cannons to host a movie night and collect branches

Despite Tav's valiant efforts to help us reach the magic 20 runners, the cold proved to much for some potential Goodgymers, so we had 17 brave souls show up to take part in what had been advertised as a mystery task.

We welcomed 4 new runners: Craig, Hayley and Jay from Craig's Layer Bootcamp, and Christoph, a friend of James P. Well done for bringing new runners along and earning your red laces. Remember, if you bring a new runner to any of our runs in February, you'll get a free pair of red shoelaces.

We made our way through the park and the town centre past Abbey Fields and through to Layer Road to meet our task at the Cannons.

When we showed up, there was only one resident waiting for the movie, but nonetheless, 17 runners rallied around him to get his chosen drink and snacks - it was really like an "en masse" coach run.

But after a few moments, a few more residents showed up, and we had 4 people waiting to watch the movie. Whilst you may think that you don't need 17 runners to prepare some drinks and put a DVD on, in fact it took 3 people just to switch on the TV, as you can see from Michelle's pictures.

Once the movie night was set up, it was on to the other task of clearing branches. Craig and Jay came outside with me, but the rest of the runners just couldn't face the cold and stayed inside until I yelled at them!!

Finally, with everybody outside, the crystal maze competition began as we only had 5 minutes to stack up all the branches.

On our way back we learnt a new running drill to help to correct overstriding. As usual we all left with that warm fuzzy feeling of doing some good for the community.

When we got back to base we learnt more about coach running, and how important it is for some of our runners to get involved as we aim to reach 60,000 older people by 2020.

Next week we will be doing a task for Emmaus sign up here We also have a Silent Disco social on Friday 17th sign up here and make sure you follow the instructions in the event to let us know if you want food.
