On September 29th, St Christopher's Hospice and Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice are holding a fundraising five mile twilight walk from Greenwich to Blackheath. To help publicise it, they're delivering leaflets around Blackheath to let local residents know and asked GoodGym to help out with this!

Segueing to this morning, I met the lovely Helen to deliver some of these leaflets. We arrived at the (very windy) "On Blackheath" festival at around 12-ish to collect both the leaflets and our route map. While waiting for our contact to collect them, Helen and I chatted about various injuries (portentously including my propensity to fall over a lot) and various races. I instantly knew Helen was cool when she told me about some of the themes of the virtual runs she's done over the last couple of years. I'm definitely going to check some of those out! 😄

Before setting off, we attempted a before-selfie with the leaflets to capture how windy it was but I don't think we managed to in the snap we took together. Wind is obviously a difficult beast to catch.

Aside from almost twisting my ankle after falling into a random hole on the first street (labelled as a literal pitfall in the photos), the rest of the mission was reasonably incident free. That may have been because Helen kept an eye out for flat areas for me to walk on! 😅 (As much as she could, of course: People seem to enjoy having lots of stairs in their blocks of flats.) Helen also served as chief navigator for our mission, which was very much appreciated as it allowed me to simply enjoy being in the sun while the first signs of autumn [fall] are showing. It was a great day to be doing this sort of mission :)

Leaflets delivered (Goodgym delivered!), I hopped a bus to a cinema while Helen kindly returned the remaining leaflets back to our contact at the festival. Thanks also to Helen for suggesting we base our title pun on a Serenity quote: It's reminded me of all the great Firefly episodes I should rewatch! 😀 (Jaynestown is first on the list!)
