15 GG Yorkies braved the rain to help build a footpath in Heworth Holme.

BUT FIRST, I was totally honoured to be awarded with the best cape ever, the Cape of Good Deeds, which Leanne had stitched together with great skill! It was even wrapped in special paper which was tear-outs from running magazines of lunging exercises. This cape will be worn on a group run by anyone who is celebrating their 50th good deed so stick with us and you'll all get to feel just as awesome as I did tonight (it makes you run faster).

We ran out as a pack to meet Jonathan from St Nick's who was managing our big task this evening. We were met with a huge pile of stones and a 400m length of partially-constructed pathway. Some of the path had wooden edges laid but Darren and Paul W went off to continue banging in edging planks with a hammer that was akin to Thor's.

Meanwhile, the rest of the team rotated around digging, wheelbarrowing and raking to get the path in order. The stones were heavy and this was a seriously physical task, but in just 25 minutes we'd halved the pile and filled the lined section of pathway as well as prepping the next section to be filled.

We ran back via a brilliant park space at Glen Gardens where we completed a team circuit challenge which consisted of:

  • STEP REPS
  • TRICEP DIPS
  • LOG SQUATS
  • MOUNTAIN CLIMBERS
  • MINI HILL RUNS
  • THE WATER SLIDE!

Alex did an outstanding job of clearing all the water from the slide, he even did it with a squeal of sheer delight. We will be really sad to say goodbye to him next week as he moves back to Newcastle, so do come along and join us for the group run and the pub after as we raise our glasses to the GG Yorkie poster boy!
