Logging In

As 7pm approached the group outside the Tottenham Green Leisure Centre began to swell. 21 eager runners and some esteemed guests gathered for the launch night of GoodGym Haringey.

Captain's Log

New Haringey trainer Varon Lewis took centre stage and told us about his vision for the group. A local resident for years, this was his first job in the borough and he couldn't wait to get going. Up next was Leader of the Council, Claire Koben, a keen runner and enthusiastic in her quest to make Haringey a fitter, healthier borough. We hope to see her on more runs in the future.

Run Log

Then we were off. Covering 3.2 km to the Wolves Lane Horticultural and Garden Centre through the greenery of Downhills Park and Lordship Recreation Ground. After some ninja manoeuvres to avoid setting off the alarm (we had permission to be there - honest) the wonderful Claire and Phil, volunteers at the centre and gardening gods, explained what needed to be done.

Task Log

There was a big pile of logs. They needed moving. After initially trialling the 'grab as many as you can and carry them' tactic one smart GoodGymer suggested we form a chain to improve our log moving productivity. It worked, our log moving rate immediately increased by over 279% and we quickly settled into a routine. There were flat logs, crumbly logs, spider logs, ant logs, deceptively light logs, deceptively heavy logs and finally the final log. Then the final final log. Then finally the final final final log. We'd done it. After some more alarm avoiding, wall hugging we said our goodbyes and were off into the night.

Logging Off

Safely back at the start location, Varon lead some stretching which revealed that a combination of short arms and long legs is not great when trying to touch your toes.

Until next time, this is GoodGym logging out
