Ain't snow stopping us now!

Lambeth Report written by Katie Welford

Well. You get on the tube and it's a bit drizzly. You get off the tube and it's straight out big snowflake snowing. That did not deter 29 cracking runners from jumping on the good ship Lambeth for a night of two tasks and two decent runs. Nice!

After a good warm up, George and Tom led a merry band up the hill to West Norwood, where John was waiting at the Portico gallery. The famous West Norwood Feast gazebo sides were waiting to be sorted into CLEAN or DIRTY, folded and put away. Not the dirty ones though! They needed to get clean. This was a solid 4km each way, which kept everyone warm and the snow even stopped. Tom H took some photos and they are a bit blurry. Or perhaps they show the speed at which people were working? You decide!

My children's phone has produced some Gerhard Richter style portraits tonight...Said Tom

Katie and Lucy headed 3.5km down to Vauxhall to help prep a new community cafe that will be opening in February. Be Enriched have community spaces that anyone can come along to, have a chat and get some food for free. This cafe will charge people from the nearby sports centre and the profits will go back into the rest of their work. There was a lot of degreasing to do and so everyone donned gloves and set about cleaning fridges, shelves and a manky deep fat fryer, as well as sanding some wooden condiment containers down.

Shout out to Tim for tackling the greasy job of under the fat fryer!

We returned back to base and did some nice stretches, before a small party headed to the pub for some light refreshments and chats about our forthcoming trip to Liverpool in March.

Steamy Windows

Lambeth Report written by Katie Welford

What a night! By far the wettest and chilliest night of 2018, yet 20 heroes turned up to run to two tasks that needed our support.

Lucy and Tom B led the walking contingent, whilst Beth led the runners, to Grove Adventure Playground. Here's what Beth said about it:

Our fabulous five ran and walked over to Grove Adventure playground and were met by a very grateful Anthea who had the heating on ready to warm us up. We started off by sweeping the floor before Tom and Lucy gave it a good mop and Paul did a great job of cleaning the toilets. After that three of us moved on to the job of paint scraping. Thanks to some over eager corporate volunteers some of the paint from the door frame had got on to the windows so we scraped it off and gave them a brush. Before we set off Anthea took a group photo which made Lucy a bit anxious that we would ruin her clean floor by standing on it. On the run back any drying out that had happened was undone by a car driving past a huge puddle and splashing us but we carried on knowing we could make a start on tasting the week’s baked goods before the other group got back.

The rest of us headed to the Crisis charity shop near Elephant and Castle. Katie's glasses immediately steamed up, rendering her a fairly useful navigator and Tom H's phone was playing silly buggers. This meant we went a slightly meandering route that was thwarted by some locked park gates. On arriving a little late to this brilliant shop, we got stuck in with steaming, labelling, hoovering and neatening up the clothes on the shop floor. The staff were delighted that we had saved them some morning jobs.

We ran back in two groups on a much simpler route and enjoyed some of Beth and Paul's delicious bakes before heading home to warm up. Well done Lambeth!

Bags of fun

Lambeth Report written by Katie Welford

This evening we welcomed lots of lovely new people and celebrated Tess's 50th run. What a good start!

We had two cracking tasks this evening - the shorter run was led by Beth. Here's what she had to say about it:

Following some confusion about where the woodchip had been delivered, we headed to Loughborough Junction farm to meet Karen and to help spread woodchip around the paths at the farm. We utilised anything we could find to move the woodchip, a couple of wheelbarrows, buckets and even a plastic bag. After about half an hour of shoveling, wheeling and spreading the pile was gone and any last bits swept up. With time to spare John lead us in a quick fitness session which required us to do impressions of rockstars, frogs and skiers.

The rest of us headed 4km up to Streatham to help the fantastic family support charity, St. Michael's Fellowship. They had loads more clothing donations for babies and toddlers that needed sorting into packs before being distributed to local families who need them. Everyone set about their spring, summer, autumn and winter collections with aplomb and loved being in such a positive space.

Do these shorts go with this top? Asked Andy. NO! Said everyone.

On return to base we enjoyed some stretches and bake off delights from Katie (that's me!) and the elusive Jay who got up at 5am to bake his. Now that's commitment!
