No great barrier grief at the Quacky Races!

9 wonderful runners met up on a sunny Saturday at Roll for the Soul to head over to Queens Square where we were meeting up with Sustrans to help them set up an even t called the Fair in the Square.

It was a very very short run, and we were at Queens Square in no time at all, chatting to Debbie from Sustrans about what we were needed for.

Firstly we moved a lot of barriers to help make a tandem test track, and quickly got in to the rhythm of carrying the barriers.

We then had to lug heavy weights around the help anchor various tents and stalls around the site.

Then we moved more barriers to various locations.

And then we thought we'd finished. So far so ordinary.

We were about to head off for a run around the docks when we got a last minute request to help set up a crazy golf course! We sprinted over to the trailer that had brought the portable golf course all the way from Oxford and got stuck in moving fiberglass windmills, helter skelters and rubber ducks, as well as small wheeled toys called roller racers and a course for them to go along.

Our job would not have been complete if we hadn't taken the time to test these items, so a swift game of crazy golf occured, followed by a roller racer race in which half the team scooted around the course as fast as possilbe and the other team held a plank. Then we switched sided. To propel the roller racers, the rider had to dig their heals in to the ground and drag, and as a result it felt like your hamstrings had been hit with a lead pipe - it was not easy!

Once we'd finished regressing to our childhood, part of the group went for a run and a stretch, and another part went for an ice cream.

Thank you so much for coming and thanks to Gary for a cracking and fun run pun.

P.S Apologies if I chopped your head off again with my photos! P.P.S have a look at some of the competitive racing faces! Wow!
