FLY...ERING INTO THE STORM

The weather was certainly a dramatic change from the weekend but that didn`t put off our MADE OF TOUGH STUFF eight from coming along tonight for a 4k run to help deliver flying invitations for Foodcycle Bath, delivering to local residents inviting them to come along to a cooked meal made from surplus food on Wednesday evening. The skies were very dark tonight with the threat of a storm looming overhead.

The run was mostly UP and DOWN this evening with a run up to our host Fiona at st Marys church we even had chance for some squats and step ups on the way and the runners at the front were sent to the back for some speed work and a re group. Emily even had chance to show the group the waffle fence she made for Transition Bath on Gravel walk.

Fiona was there to greet us and talk to the group about Foodcycle and the good they do using surplus food and volunteers to create wonderful meals for people at risk of social poverty and isolation every Wednesday evening in Bath.

The group split into two teams of four with Joseph Rob Mim and Anna heading out to the east side and Steph Emily Helen and Sam moving across the western streets, this involved weaving our way up and down the hilly streets with our invitations to tomorrows dinner at st Marys church.

Helen bid us farewell as she was off to play board games and boy doesn't that girl like to keep busy. The runners made light work of delivering 400 flyers before re grouping back at the church for some light refreshments kindly supplied by Fiona... Lovely cakes of various shapes sizes and a variety of flavours, well you have to re fuel don`t you.

Time to grab a group photo before heading back to the leisure centre and take a quick look at the swan nesting on the way. A well earned stretch out and it was noted that a couple of the runners came away with a CAKE IN A BAG, not mentioning any names.

Thanks Sam for the pun and Emily for back marking and everyone who came along tonight to help. Thank you to Fiona for the lovely cakes

If you would like to know more about foodcycle Bath or Volunteer to help take a look and get involved http://foodcycle.org.uk/location/bath/

Don`t forget we have a Saturday run this week to the Nuttery for Transition Bath why not come and join us http://www.goodgym.org/group_runs/lets-go-nuts-this-saturday

AIN`T NO MOUNTAIN HIGH ENOUGH

WOW... what a beautiful evening to be out and about with 10 AMAZING people in Bath on a Goodgym run picking up litter in Alexandra park after climbing the notorious JACOBS LADDER to the top and I forgot to count how many steps but boy was it worth it, the pictures really don`t do it justice with tonight's run taking a sweet 7k.

A very warm welcome to a fellow Turk Tayfun who has joined us tonight and I have to say what an amazing job he did for his country. Lovely to see Anna back tonight after being poorly and she came up with tonight`s pun.

To cut a long story short tonight's task for the homeless was cancelled at short notice so our injured trainer Steph (who fainted on the stairs at home on Saturday and knocked herself out cold) was very happy to have the lovely Pascale along tonight to assist with a change of plan and route ... Thank you so much Pascale.

We held a quick discussion on which park to attend and John came up with the mountainous route up JACOBS LADDER to Alexandra park which opened to the public in 1902 to commemorate the coronation of Edward VII and named in honour of queen Alexandra. We grabbed a breath and a group photo at the summit before splitting in BOYS vs GIRLS to litter pick for 15 minutes, The girls made light work of it finding all sorts of things headphones being one of the HOT PICKS and so took the title of most rubbish collected. Although Rob had his own little bag going on.

It was time to move on and head back down SHAKESPEARE AVENUE toward the TWO TUNNELS linear route heading back towards Oldfield park litter picking on the way before arriving at SANDPITS for some rich pickings and a chance for the group to have a fitness session using the equipment in the park, but I`m not sure Anne's pole dancing was on the cards and this gave the boys a chance to show off their upper arm strength with Ellen and Rachel using the see saw for squats galore.

We arrived back at the leisure centre in the nick of time and I have to say I feel very humbled to run with such an amazing bunch of people who are ready to work together whilst doing good in the community ... High five to you all.

Branching out in Bath

Ten super committed runners at Goodgym Bath tonight taking to the streets for our task on the go visiting Doctors surgeries in and around the city with various flyers including The Big Sleep out for the homeless from Julian house and Befriending flyers from Age uk. this was an 8k run in total. As we all had different strava readings we decided to opt for the middle of the road.

Our first stop tonight was Bath Library where we decided to get on down with those squats, great to strengthen the legs for those doing Bath Half next month. The only way down was on the escalator ( hence the photo) they aren't a lazy bunch I promise. We raised a few smiles which is always good to see.

The first Doc stop was at Catherine place where the group split up and sprint to find the right door to get posting those flyers with Hermione and team completing the mission here, before heading up the hill to st James`s surgery with Suzy, Kenta and Charles opting for the hill sprint to make their delivery.

Next we headed out for a nice long stretch towards Weston to make a delivery of flyers at the Hospital, where we took time for a regroup and a chance to take advantage of some tricep dips before our next jolly jaunt to the local surgery at Weston. Steph gave the group some Turkish lessons saying Hello , Goodbye and ordering two beers, it`s all you need to know surely !!

We left the farthest point of our run tonight and headed back down towards the city centre but always having Health and safety in mind on route, the Bath team removed a huge branch that was blocking the pavement and carried it to a safe resting place in the nearby cemetery. It`s nice to think we could have prevented someone from a fall tonight.

Just one more stop and delivery to make on the way back to the leisure centre and it just so happens a nicely placed low wall for some step ups and some strange looks from passers-by. We made it back to the leisure centre with 5 minutes to spare and a chance for some well deserved stretches after a great long run and a reminder to bring your ID if you wish to gain your very own running Coach.

It has to be said I`ve not had the best day after locking my keys and all in my car with the only solution being a 10 mile walk (dog in hand) to gain access to my car again but thankfully all good now with a super run and task with great people.

Thank you guys as you made my day :-)
