Community Cape

Andrea Germaney earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.

Andrea completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Andrea was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

Windsor and Maidenhead Report written by Windsor and Maidenhead runner

There is a plan to plant a swathe of woodland in Ockwells Park, to join up 2 existing areas of ancient woodland. It is a few years into the project now and we have had many GoodGym missions to plants trees and help maintain the area. Hundreds of acorns have been collected from the existing woodland, and today's task was to try to plant as many as we could. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day, as we gathered at Ockwells for our mission briefing by Amy, who sadly could not join us due to an injury. Get better soon! It was great to meet Andrea and welcome her to her first GoodGym mission. We set off for the planting site carrying spades and two buckets of acorns which inexplicably got heavier, the further we went. At the planting site we set to work, digging a slot with the spade, dropping in a couple acorns and covering the hole again. Wanting to keep a tally of how many acorns we had planted, we soon ran out of fingers and toes to count on, so Juli devised an ingenious system of dropping an acorn into a bucket for every 10 nuts we planted. We were treated to sights of a pair of kestrels and an enormous frog in the grass as we worked. By the end of the afternoon we had planted 750 acorns, but there are plenty left for further sessions. We made our way back to the car park, with slightly lighter buckets, and pleased with a good afternoon's work
