We ran to help those in need, get help and where to find us, and even got photos on the set of peaky blinders...............

Stockport Report written by Lisa Hamilton

Sometimes you get areal perspective on life in 1 second, and tonight Goodgym had one of those moments………

We met up at the usual spot (Grand Central Lifeleisure, right near the train station) at 6.30pm.

There were 10 runners ready to go do some good stuff.

At the last minute the task planned was for the night was cancelled, and so I did a re- shuffle of my brain. Last week on our “We Love Stockport” clean up we found lots of laminated notices that had fallen off the bridge, these notes are there to help support and encourage people in a extremely vulnerable place and a time they feel they have no one to turn to, the time they were originally put up they made a large impact in Stockport, but since a large selection had fallen off through the winter, and so it only seemed right to re-make the laminates with supporting notes, positive statements and letting people know they are not alone, there is always someone to help and someone to talk things through with.

We added various statements, as well as notes with the Samaritans details on, and added ribbons to make people notice it once again. Doing Goodgym always makes us feel like a strong community that is working towards making life better and easier and more enjoyable, however tonight was particularly moving, as when we we putting these statements up and young man came to thank us, he mentioned he had been though a extremely rough 6 months, and one of the signs on the bridge really really helped him. My point being that small things we do make a huge difference in peoples lives, and that is totally amazing.

As well as the night being a thoughtful one, we also made sure there was fitness and fun, these bridges were on HILLS!! So we had to do a little challenge on them, it would be rude not too. We also had a little detour to the park for some interval training. I was told and shown how to create a “boomerang!!” I Dont know how to add it, so cant actually show anyone!

And lastly, we went and “photobombed” the set of Peaky Blinders…… It is currently being filmed in Stockport, so we doned our caps and furs (fake, obviously) to go have a sneaky peak!!! We did our best mean faces, the security team were great, we did get some photos with cast members but unfortunately were not allowed to show them until the show has been aired!

What a night guys, you did amazing on all fronts!

Lovely to see Lynne back and this time with her daughter Abbie (showed me the boomerang!)

Thanks again guys for such a great week,

Happy running,

Lisa
