This week our group run was in partnership with This Girl Can's #LetsLiftTheCurfew campaign.
Now the clocks have changed the evenings are darker and this puts many women off exercising outside in the evenings as it can feel unsafe to do so.
GoodGym is a safe space to exercise outside in a friendly group throughout the winter months and so to spread the word, and encourage more women to join forces reclaim the streets at night, we decorated ourselves with bright lights ready for a colourful run around town on the way to our task.
We welcomed Arthur to his very first session with GoodGym and Luqman who had done a couple of community missions but hadn't attended a group run before. It was lovely to meet them both and have two new faces on the Wednesday night team! They both looked great with their lights on and did a great job running around town with us.
Our colourful lights were doubly appropriate for the occasion because it is Diwali and our task for the evening was helping the Sikh temple prepare for Diwali celebrations at the end of the week. We arrived ready to help give the kitchen a deep clean, mop the floors. vacuum the carpets and generally give the whole temple an autumn clean.
With nine of us working away we did a really thorough job and were rewarded with hot cups of chai before we departed to illuminate the dark streets once again to finish off our evening.

12 of Goodgym Luton's team turned out to support the Shri Guru Ravidass Sangat temple with the 2nd curry cooking sessions of their current Near Neighbours funded project. Helping with prep, cooking and cleaning up the team really helped to make the evening run smoothly. We welcomed Mugahid to his first session and after some brief introductions, he got stuck in and showed he'll be a great member if our Team. Well done all. thanks for a great evening

Tonight, 8 of Lutons Goodgym champions, joined members of Desi Arts and Sundon Park Baptist Church as part of the Shri Guru Ravidass Sangat's near neighbours funded project, cooking food and bringing different communities together. Tonight the team helped to cook, a delicious tomato infused rice, dhal, aubergine 🍆 curry, roti (117 in total) and rice pudding. Twice the rice 🍚 but oh so nice. It was great to welcome Dinner Dee to her first Goodgym session. Everyone got stuck in with washing up and cleaning down in the kitchen and we all got a little doggy bag to take away. Great effort 👌 everyone 👏

We had a great evening supporting the Mear Neighbours project at the Shri Guru Ravidass Sangat Gudwara on Thursday evening. 6 incredibly focused members of the Goodgym Luton team helped to host the event where the temple welcomed members if the Roma trust and Friends of the temple. The team helped to prep, cook and clear down on the night and were able to share the delicious food that was prepared as part of the project. We had great fun and look forward to our next session. Well done team

This morning I went along to the Warden Hill Community garden to prep the ground and sow some mustard seeds. It was hard word as the ground was quite compact in places but with a little bit of sweat and effort, I had a lovely seed bed ready for planting. At one point I could feel something in the ground that was hard to turn over. I remember last year, the team found some sizable rocks 🪨 and I thought it was another one, but it turned out to be a piece of pipe. I navigated around it, although I did have a good go at digging it out, it wasn't having any of it. I finished off watering all the beds then headed off to the next task

Goodgymers Martin and Tigger were delighted to find the Warden Hill community garden springing into production already with shallots and onions growing well. Taking advantage of the perfect gardening weather, they prepared more ground and popped in broad beans and pea seeds, and started on shaping up and allocating more of the plot for sowing some spinach and various greens at next visit. Great spot for a Sunday morning workout with spade, fork and watering cans.
