Letter Boxing!

Thursday 9th May

Written by Mandy Driver

Thursday at 6:15pm is GoodGym Windsor Night! ๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Tonight we were delivering leaflets for Age Concern to help raise awareness and to also help get them get more donations.

We all (Didem, Adam, Jen, Bekah and Mandy) met at The Binoy for a lovely social walk in the sunshine โ˜€๏ธ to the task โ€ฆ yes we did say sunshine .. โ˜€๏ธโ˜€๏ธโ˜€๏ธ

We met task owner Rachel and viewed the handy work from our previous painting task in the entrance and collected the leaflets. We guessed we had about 350 to do so we got started. Making sure to stick to the area asked and not going to houses with a no junk mail notice.

We split up into teams but both had a sunny side of the street tonight โ˜€๏ธ Careful not miss a door, get our hands stuck in the letter box, working out how to get in some wall mounted boxes and working our way along noting where we had been already. We did lose each other for a spell but a phone call gathered us back. Jen disappeared up what we thought was a short line of cottages and came back with hardly any leaflets left towards the end looking triumphant ๐Ÿคฃ

Bekah and Mandy were offered a cash job to deliver 1000 leaflets from a tree surgeon on the roadside but we declined ๐Ÿคฃ not even sure what the going rate was anyway ๐Ÿคฃ worth looking into though as a future career!

Then because Mandy had, had letter box /boxing on her mind all day she insisted on some post task air boxing. Mandy got the eye of the tiger tune on and we made a very feeble attempt at it but it was funny.

A quick curtsy and bow ๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธand we made our way home.

Thank you as always for attending ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Paint then Ball

Thursday 11th April

Written by Mandy Driver

Thursday 6:15pm is GoodGym Windsor Night! ๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Tonight we were helping Age Concern at The Spencer Denney Centre to do a second coat to finish brightening up their entrance hall.

This was a community mission so Mandy and Bekah met at the The Binoy for a social run to the task while Chris, Jenni and Jen met us there.

We were met by task owner Sharon who showed us where all the paints etc were.

We put on some dance music and the battle commenced. We started by laying down the dust sheets, finding our favourited brush/roller and painting away. Then it was time to attack the blue paint patches showing through that we had missed on the first coat so we worked on those first then got the rest covered. As itโ€™s brick it was trickier to get good coverage but we were tactical and using different game with brush sizes. We did get a bit splatted in place we donโ€™t quite know how ๐Ÿคฃ

As time was getting on (obviously painting is fun as the time just flys) Jen started the washing down (soon joined by Jenni) of the paint trays and we took up the sheets so we could check our work. Seemed we had painted ourselves pretty well ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿคฃ

Afterwards there was some basketball shooting practise on offer in the nearby park then time for home to get a wash!

Thank you all as always Windsor GGs ๐Ÿ‘‘ โ™ฅ๏ธ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

GG Paints ๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ an entrance!

Thursday 14th March

Written by Mandy Driver

Thursday night at 6:15pm is Goodgym Windsor night ๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธand tonight we were helping Age Concern at the Spencer Denney Centre sprucing up their entrances.

This was a community mission so Helen, Mandy and Caroline met at The Binoy on Dedworth Road for a social run or walk to the task and Adam and Didem met us there.

We were met at the centre by task owners Rachel who showed us where everything was and what we needed to prep and paint from blue to a pale sage green. The plan was to make the front entrance bright and welcoming. Lots to do but in true GG style we had no com-paints ๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ

We got started with masking up the areas we didnโ€™t need to paint or to protect like the tree mural thatโ€™s fasten to the wall. Then with the sugar soap solution cleaning the walls of grease, dust and bits of blue tack etc. Once dried off we chose a roller or brush of choice and got painting. No area was glossed ๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธover

Caroline chose the radio station and Mandy got the tunes on like any tradesperson would! Doing a first coat on all walls and skirting. We chatted and exchanged our news while we worked.

Adam and Helen got a bit emulsion-al ๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ about their walls but we all thought the finish was perfect.

Didem , Helen and Caroline battled with rinsing and soaking the paint trays , brushes and rollers.

We did get a bit splattered with paint but we just just brushed ๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ it off ๐Ÿคฃ

Looking forward to the second coat and starting the other area next time ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

After the task Caroline and Mandy made their way back to the meeting point for goodbyes and the Windsor Curtsy ๐Ÿ‘‘ the others went directly home.

Thank you as always for attending ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

The four compost- GGeers โš”๏ธ

Thursday 29th February

Written by Mandy Driver

Thursday night at 6:15pm is Goodgym Windsor night ๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ and tonight our quest was serve Age Concern at the Spencer Denney Centre. Itโ€™s the 29th Feb so we went leap yearing into this swashbuckling adventure.

Just like the tale we were three Adam, Helen and Mandy being briefed on our duty by task owner Rachel, then Caroline joined us for her 10th time for the leaf scooping and compost bin squishing!

We all wielded our rakes and acted with valour then the battle commenced.

Adam and Helen took many loads of leaves minding the boggy grass. While Caroline and Mandy started work at the top level sorting plants that had been hidden by the fallen leaves.

The garden was cleared ready to see what plants had made it through the winter months.

Mandy made a period drama of the team photo and locking the building up but Helen was a loyal companion and so a happy ending was made. We ended with a honouree round of HIIT before making our way home.

All for one and one for all โš”๏ธ

Thank you as always for coming! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป I love our vibe and always feel better for seeing you all โ™ฅ๏ธ

๐ŸŽถWe got no key ๐Ÿ”‘ we got no secret ๐Ÿคซ

Thursday 1st February

Written by Windsor and Maidenhead runner

Meeting at The Binoy MAMMA MรA - HERE WE GO AGAIN on another task we warmed up and then the runners went ahead but circled back to meet the walkers for extra FOREST GUMP ๐ŸŽฌ

Our MISSION (NOT) IMPOSSIBLE ๐ŸŽฌwas at The Spencer Denny Centre. A slight technical hitch to which we couldnโ€™t crack the code to THE SECRET GARDEN despite our best efforts led to plan B in resourceful GG style! There was no way we were going to cut the night short and we showed our indomitable spirits!

Mandy emptied out the contents of her rucksack (dustpan and brush, black bag, three pairs of gloves, pair of secateurs ). Amanda hot footed back home for more tools and black bags. Meanwhile Jen, Helen and Bekah started on the leaves and Caroline set upon the bush with THE CUTTING EDGE and LOVE ACTUALLY we did very well! What we thought was going to be a small leaf collection ended up as 5 bags full.

We cleared some litter, did a bit of weeding and a generally tidy up at the front of the building. In fact the time snipped away very fast! Before we got too โ€˜FROZENโ€™.

After we had finished all we could we did a fun fitness session before running/walking back to the meeting point for goodbyes.

As always thank you all for coming and hope to see you all again soon.

Itโ€™s Reigning ๐Ÿ‘‘ (see what we did there) Windsor GoodGymers!

Thursday 4th January

Written by Amy L (she/her)

What could be worse for our Windsor Launch but heavy rain all evening and it was not stopping. Yet it did not put a damper on our plans and we are so happy to have had such a great group โ™ฅ๏ธ Special thanks to The Binoy for having the foresight to adding a rain canopy for us to shelter under!

I couldnโ€™t be prouder of all that turned up, from Sheila our 500 (and 1) task Queen to our amazing new starters Rebekah, Helen, Amy and Vincent. It was also great to see Charlotte back for her second session so soon, and of course to see our regulars Jen, Amanda, and Caroline.

So having just showered you all with compliments here is the task report ๐Ÿคฃ I hope it goes down a storm.

We had a quick warm up/ pre run stretch before setting off. The runners went ahead with Amy as run leader. Mandy was the back marker and we had Jen as walk leader although we did consider just swimming!

Once all on site and after a briefing from Rachel at The Spencer Denny Centre, our very first task owner, we all set to work.

It was like water off a ducks back taking down the floods of Christmas decorations, boxing them up and storing them away and also giving some tender loving care to some unhappy house plants with a trim and a splash of water.

Once we were all done we had a quick fun fitness session of the classic squats and lunges (which are great to improve your running) and then also mini circuits using a ball throw as a timer so not all that accurate ๐Ÿคฃ but it was still a cloud pleaser !

Sheila then surprised Amy with an unofficial celebration and treats for Amyโ€™s 300th which was tonight which made tonight extra special. That went down a storm.

We then set off back to the meeting point for final stretch and goodbyes.

Life is all about learning to dance (or run in our case) in the rain and getting soaked with laughter along the way. We certainly did that tonight.

Can't wait to see everyone for more GoodGym fun next Thursday. Click here for all details and to sign up.
