A Marathon of Leaflets!

Tuesday 23rd April

Written by Jonny Carter

Tonight it was leafleting for Change Kitchen.

Morwenna and Jonny ran from New Street station and then met Helen and James at the task.

The task was to basically deliver as many leaflets as we could, which I think we certainly did!

We still have more to do, so that will be another task in a few weeks :)

Once done, Jonny and James this time ran back to New Street station. James is running the Madrid Marathon on Sunday (hence the pun, combined with a bit of post London excitement!) so we all wish him the best of luck :)

Royal Pickers!

Wednesday 17th April

Written by Liam

This evening was a an evening of firsts, with our first task in Kings Norton and we also welcomed Helen to her first GoodGym task, welcome Helen!

We set off from our meeting point at Bournville Station and heading down the canal towards Kings Norton. This evening we collected 2 big bags of rubbish from around the station, to make sure its prepped for the new railway line due to open later this year (hopefully!). Following a quick diversion to the shelter of the station to hide from the rain, we finished up our litter picking, dropped the bags off and ran back towards Bournville via Cotteridge Park.

Great job everyone!

High step count

Tuesday 2nd April

Morwenna, Eve and myself went on a slightly soggy 5k run including delivering an entire road's worth of leaflets for Change Kitchen.

Change Kitchen is a community cafe, offering a warm welcome to all in the community serving tasty plant based meals. The leaflets we delivered were to let people know about the cafe and also included a hot drink voucher.

While leafleting we spotted loads of cute cats, and Morwenna especially climbed a lot of stairs to get to the letterboxes!!

Raining Cats and Dogs!

Tuesday 26th March

Written by Morwenna Kearns

For this week’s Group Run we joined the Great British Spring Clean and the RSPCA to clear the Jewellery Quarter’s streets of dangerous litter.

The RSPCA receives around 5,000 calls every year regarding litter – that’s nearly 14 calls each day about animals who have been impacted by rubbish. Wildlife is the main victim, but litter like disposable vapes, balloons, drinks cans and plastic bags can also affect pets.

The drizzle had already started before the five of us headed out and got steadily heavier, until it was raining cats and dogs! No need to call the RSPCA though – all the real local animals were wisely staying dry indoors.

After collecting two big bags of rubbish – just a fraction of the 407,647 bags pledged by Great British Spring Clean volunteers this year – our walkers Amy and Miriam headed back to base while Jonny, James and Morwenna went on a 5km run along the canal towards town.

Wine Not!

Tuesday 19th March

Written by Jonny Carter

Tonight we headed to our friends at Friends of the Earth.

Jonny and Eve ran the 2k to the task venue, whilst Annie and Amy met us at the task.

The task was to clean the alcohol and food cellar and clean the floor and wall around the fridges.

Amy and Annie did the cellar and Jonny and Eve did the floor and wall.

There was lots of wine to move in the cellar, Annie and Amy certainly had a smashing time..literally as one did end up on the floor! But that was no big deal as we could really see the difference we had made by the end of the task :)

Running, leafleting and cats, what more could you want??!!

Thursday 14th March

Written by Jonny Carter

Tonight J and J or Jonny and James ran into Balsall Heath to deliver a load of leaflets for Change Kitchen.

We did three whole streets in total, seeing a couple of friendly neighbourhood cats on the way.

We've still got plenty to deliver so will get the rest done in due course.

James, training for the Madrid Marathon, had already done a good 9k by the end, with Jonny doing over 6k, so a good night of running :)
