Nick of the Trade

Bromley Report written by Mark Gilyead (he/him)

Massive shout-out and big props to Nick who joined the 100 club tonight. That's a lot of time doing stuff to help out community projects that need a hand. Nick has been a GG Bromley member as long as I have and I'm so pleased he's in the team. Nick gets a fresh ๐Ÿ’ฏ tee with wings. ๐Ÿฆ… Woooop!

Right, let's see how many Nick puns we can squeeze into a run report! Sorry in advance...

All in the nick of time...

Tonight we were helping out Bromley Borough Food Bank. They have a unit in the Glades for people to donate. It was looking a little shabby so our job was to add a lick of paint to freshen it up.

Nicksand

We divided up the initial tasks of sanding, taping and laying down bin bags to protect the floor in preparation for the paint.

Another nick in the wall

There were plenty of little sticky bits on the wall and some paint coming off in places but it was all looking much cleaner before...

Nick 'n' mix

Paint mixing time! We were each equipped with brushes and rollers and got to work high and low.

Another Nick of paint

We might need to go back to add another layer but it definitely looked way better when we left.

Nice work team!

Run, Tiny Forest, Run!

Bromley Report written by Mark Gilyead (he/him)

Tonight's session was a Tiny Forest sandwich with two lovely jogs either side.

We kicked off at The Bridge House. Everyone took a guess at the number of people who signed up for the London Marathon this year. 840,000. Molly won. That's more than 1% of the UK population which is a crazy statistic.

Anyway, next up we split in two. Cat led a longer run and we all congregated at the Tiny Forest in Cator Park.

It was looking pretty well mulched but Millie assured us it needed more.

The mulch pile was a fair distance away, so we took turns wheeling and filling up with the good stuff.

I'll be bark.

After a good 45 mins we'd covered half the Tiny Forest and left a decent pile for the other half of the trees. We might even be back to spread a little more next week. We'll see.

Nice job, team! And shout-out to Sarah for joining the Bromley crew for the first time ๐Ÿ™Œ

Grassing up on another Tiny Forest

Bromley Report written by Mark Gilyead (he/him)

Tonight GoodGym was on a rescue mission.

One grassy and weedy Tiny Forest confronted us. Clearly it had been lacking a bit of TLC over its lifespan, but luckily we were on hand to rip it and strip it down to the mud.

We chose to tackle one small section which turned into quite a big section. And we made a massive pile of grass and weeds to show for it.

Nice one team!

First Tuesday of the month is now Tiny Forest day. See you next month!

Shout out to Andreas for the pun ๐Ÿ™Œ

do you need a flexible timetable to do Goodgym Yoga!

Barnet Report written by Paul Salman

A few GoodGym members came online to do yoga.

Yoga talk Yoga talk, static holds. This is a really interesting episode about isometric exercises and their benefits. In yoga, we are constantly using static holds on a combination of muscle groups. New research points to very positive benefits on blood pressure and fitness.

Hundred Dacre Wood Weeds

Bromley Report written by Mark Gilyead (he/him)

A fantastic four of us met this evening for some good deeding/weeding at a new task for us!

John, who helps out at Dacre Wood in Sydenham had a pretty mega job for us in the form of a very weedy cobbled path.

Luckily he had just the tools for the job and we cracked on slicing and pulling to get the weeds out of the cracks.

Say crack again.

The team did a cracking job and we cleared the main entrance path. Just a few more sections to go back for another time.

Nicely done everyone ๐Ÿ˜Š

It was also nice to jog past the beds that GoodGymer Tim used to look after. They are still looking beautiful. He would be proud.

A Strand Day Out

Westminster Report written by Diane

A dozen GoodGymmers from a range of groups (incl Tower Hamlets, Richmond and Lambeth) met Andrea for GROAD to help distribute duvets, bags, clothes, shoes and sandwiches to rough sleepers. The usual spot just off the Strand was busy as ever with expectant and grateful recipients. With the large number of volunteers, we finished early, grateful to return to our own homes for the night.
