22 Runners ran 5k to level a growing plot

This weeks Camden GoodGym was a cracker. The lack of rain, tube disruption and subzero winds might have had something to do with it. But it was more due to the great group of people and the big meaty task we got stuck into.

Maiden Lane Estate

We were heading to help out Maiden Lane Community Enterprises. Originally formed to manage the green spaces on behalf of estate residents, they now manage a series of permaculture projects on the estate including relaxation and food growing areas, the Community Centre garden and roof, and an Orchard on the south of the estate.

Eat it, bin it, recycle it, grow with it, eat it again...nicey

There's loads going on at Maiden Lane. We previously helped FoodLoop Maiden Lane, where residents food waste is recycled into compost and used to grow more food for their benefit. It's a pretty vibrant place.

Les Vegas

Our task for the evening was to help Head Gardener Les who is looking to develop an area on the site currently covered in old woodchip. It's slowly turning into soil, so he needs to flatten the area and get rid of a host of logs and timber that have been thrown on top.

Jogs, Logs, and....woodchip shifting

There were 4 tasks- shifting the heavy logs, raking and flattening the woodchip mountain, wheelbarrowing some fresh woodchip over, and digging over a small growing plot. We quickly broke into teams and armed with Les's tools we got to work. It was quick fire action and in 40mins we had made loads of progress.

Double quick run

With time running out we broke into 2 teams- one jogging back to the centre while the others went for a quick fire 3k along the canal. They smashed it- gasping as they arrived back at the centre bang on 8.30pm. Great running guys.
