3&4 34, 5&0 50

Norwich Report written by Steven Hitcham

34 was the number of GoodGymers who turned out tonight.

50 is the number of good deeds that Elliott has now completed.

Tonight's task was a game of Bingo with residents at Violet Elvin Court. Luckily they had an electronic machine so there was no chance of me dropping my balls everywhere this week :-I

We welcomed Phongloet to his first GoodGym encounter, another recruit from Ana's language school, which is great to see.

The task was around 3km each-way and Bill kindly volunteered as back runner. we arrived just before the rain started.

We had a few games of Bingo with the residents, GoodGym were taking the early honours with Elizabeth, Paul, Sultan and Mark amongst the winners (there was one other from GoodGym but I can't remember who!). Luckily for the tenants they finished the evening with two of them claiming the full house in the final game.

Sadly we had to head back and sadly it was raining rather hard the whole way back!

Next week we're doing a Litter Pick around Norwich.

We had a ball of an evening

Norwich Report written by Steven Hitcham

The shocking weather definitely put off a few people but we still had 18 hardcore GoodGymers who wouldn't let the weather defy them.

A big welcome to Zahra and Abdlrahman who were doing their 1st good deeds with us.

Well done to Jennifer J for completing her 10th good deed!

To try and stay dry for as long as possible (except for those who ran to The Forum) we did a warm up inside then headed out on the wet, but at least short, 1.5km each-way run to Ellacombe Care Home, the 1st time we'd visited them.

Several residents had stayed up to meet us and we got a game of Boccia (pronounced bot-cha) out. We split everyone into two teams (red and blue) and that kept us occupied for a good 40-45 minutes. It was close all the way... I can't actually remember which team won in the end!!

Many people scored a '100' although Katy's was most impressive as it went straight in the hole without bouncing.

Not all residents wanted to play the games so some of the GoodGymers just sat and chatted to them, which was lovely to see.

For the residents, it was great for them to be able to have so much company and fun for an evening. In fact, I think some of them would have been happy to play Boccia until midnight if we could have stayed that late.

Next week is a much longer run (no walk option) as we visit Bowthorpe Care Village to erect a chicken shed and help create a memorial garden.

A little food for thought

Norwich Report written by Steven Hitcham

The new year continues with a boom with another fantastic turnout.

A big welcome to several new runners this week in Lillian, Lisa, Sirilak, Chen and Fatima.

Janice was backrunner and Hayley photographer, which was a great help as I could split the group during the task and run with half of them.

The milestones this week were Janice & Raffy completing their 10th good deeds.

We had another very productive task this week. It was a 3km each-way run to the Norwich Foodbank, a great organisation who always welcome our help to keep them on top of things. With the influx of donations we needed the influx of GoodGymers!

It was quite chaotic at times I'm not going to lie haha. As we couldn't fit 40+ in the warehouse we paired up again so one person would be helping out while the other would do a little running/walking loop... it pretty much worked ;-)

As always, time flew by, especially with the added running/walking included but we made a massive impact none the less and got plenty done.

There was the added challenge of Grapes Hill we had to conquer towards the end of the run back.

There's an additional Group Run this Saturday as we visit EACH Charity Shop and Monday's Group Run we are visiting Ellacombe Care Home. There will be a walk option at both of them.

Baby, I Need Your Sorting

Norwich Report written by Steven Hitcham

What another great turnout this evening, which I believe is our 2nd or 3rd highest ever!

We had several new runners so a big welcome to Heather, Ana, Paul, Aston, Karen, Shunsuke and Sultan.

Elizabeth kindly volunteered to be back runner.

Some milestones this week with Bobby completing his 50th good deed, Rosie & Angela their 25th good deed and Simon his 10th good deed.

It was our first ever visit to Baby Bank Norfolk, what a great and unique organisation they are. I'm sure we'll do plenty of visits to them in the future. Similar to the Food Bank, they work on a referral basis and have helped provide over 600 families with clothing and baby essentials.

There was quite a lot of running included, 4km each-way for the task and as all of us couldn't fit in the sorting room, we did relays so one person was running while the other was sorting.

Very kindly, Baby Bank Norfolk provided us with drinks and chocolate to keep our energy levels up throughout the evening.

We achieved a lot in the time we were there, in fact we pretty much sorted through all of the donations they had, so this can help them focus on getting the items out to families.

After 30-40 minutes (which equates to around 25 hours), we took the group photo and then headed off on the windy 4km run to The Forum. The evening was finished with several people going to the pub.

Next week we're visiting Norwich Food Bank.
