In The Bag!

Exeter Report written by Klara Kjellgren

10 GoodGymers did an AMAZING job, delivering Christmas Goodie bags to families all over Exminster this evening!

Today's session was quite special. Jane joined us for the first time. It was great having you with us and we hope you come back soon again for more running and doing good! We also had Florence reaching 50 good deeds! Fantastic work Florence, let's all give her a big cheer!

We started our evening with a socially distanced run up and down the hills in Exminster. Great work everyone! We then smashed a circuit session, giving both our legs and upper body a full work-out. Our spot could not have been better for this, it was beautifully lit up by the villlage Christmas tree!

Spreading light on the darkest day of the year!

By the time we had completed our fitness session it started to drizzle a bit, but, as you all know, bad weather never puts us off! We quickly divided us into three groups and set off in different directions to deliver Christmas Goodie Bags to familes all over the village. These bags have been put together by Connect St Martins, who also have arranged a nativity trail through the village for families to follow. So lovely!

We certainly got very fit delivering all the bags, going up some very steep hills and clocking up a fantastic number of steps. Extra kudos to Lawrence who on top of all this had a 20 k run to get to the task and back again!

Once all the bags were delivered we celebrated with some socially distanced mince pies and a little chat. It was so great to see you all. I hope you all have a very lovely Christmas with lots of great runs!

Christingle Bells Rock!

Exeter Report written by Klara Kjellgren

7 GoodGymers braved the freezing cold weather to deliver Christingle bags in Exminster, so that this celebration could go ahead in a safe and socially distanced way!

What a great morning! 7 GoodGymers came walking, running and cycling to Exminster to help Connect and the Methodist Church deliver Christingle bags. It was great to see Lucy R in her amazing Santa Hat and Sarah in her very stylish Christmas leggings.

After a photo shoot by the village Christmas tree we quickly set off in three groups, fully loaded with bags. Our legs got a great work out with the many hills and our brains too, trying to figure out the house numbers in some areas ha ha ha!

We totally smashed the delivery and got over 100 bags out in an hour and a bit. Such good work!

Nothing beats starting the weekend with a good deed!

We finished off with quick mince pie and a lovely chat about what's coming up next: we have some great Community Missions listed and I hope I get to see all of you very soon again! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Flyering like the wind!

Exeter Report written by Klara Kjellgren

5 GoodGymers got lots of extra steps in and had a great time helping Westbank leaflet about an important community event in Exminster

It was a blustery weekend with changeable weather but nothing could stop the 5 GoodGymers who stepped up to this last minute Community Mission! Such keen beans getting involved with this important task, spreading the word in Exminster about a very important community event organised by Westbank.

Kudos points to Nic who came all the way from Exeter to help out! Also to Anna who got one of her lovely four-legged friends involved with this task and finally a big shout out to Sarah who got stuck in and also did a fab run today, just 7 days after she had completed the Virtual London Marathon!

You guys are just the best and can't wait to see you all soon again for some more running and doing good!

LEGS CELEBRATE!!! GG Exeter Turns ONE!

Exeter Report written by Klara Kjellgren

Happy Birthday GG Exeter!

It seems like yesterday we launched the GoodGym in Exeter. We had 61 people coming along to the very first group run and it sure was a night to remember. You take a look at the first run report here

Since then we've completed 727 good deeds and we've had the best of times getting fit whilst doing good!

We've run in glorious sun sets, in torrential rain, we've got lost and found some stunning short-cuts across our city, we've met some very interesting people and made new friends, we've learned a lot about "what is a weed", improved our painting skills and we all know where to find litter hidden away.. Most of all we have created a very strong community. Even during the very difficult lockdown months we managed to keep our group going strong, we were aways there for each other and ready to help out in the wider community whenever it was needed!

You have been a big part of this. THANK YOU for always spreading such positive vibes in our group!

Due to Covid, holidays and quarantining we sadly could not meet up in person to celebrate our area this week, but it was lovely to have a little virtual chat and a toast in the WhatsApp group! We had some great pictures coming in with some brilliant messages, like Lucy R's

Happy Birthday and keep being a Spaniel!

Jo and Craig celebrated by going running. Craig even beat his 10 k PB with 10 minutes!!! AMAZING!!!

Happy Birthday GG Exeter. Smashed a PB 10 k tonight just for you. Never would have done it if I wasn't part of such an awesome group.

Apart from sharing birthday messages it has also been a busy week in terms of making plans for the future! We got some great stuff coming up and I can't wait to see you all very soon. If we got this far in a year, despite a pandemic, who knows how far the next year can take us!

Back To School!

Exeter Report written by Klara Kjellgren

5 GoodGymers spent the afternoon helping Exminster Primary School create a beautiful nature area! Awesome work team!

It was the second day in a row that our team of GoodGymers made their way to Exminster Primary School to help them with their outdoor area. Yesterday we weeded some huge flowerbeds and today we helped create a nature area. The kids will love all the outdoor time there!

We certainly got fit by doing good today! For 1.5 hours we worked super hard with the following:

  • Shoveling soil
  • Moving a big pile of planks
  • Moving wood chipping
  • Leveling out the ground
  • Cutting down some branches
  • Digging out roots
  • Bagging all the waste up

That in combination with all the miles clocked up for the team to get to the school makes it a TERRIFIC TUESDAY! Also, just think of how many minutes that added to our Let's Move challenge! We're gonna smash it!

Totally loved seeing you all and hope to see you very soon again! Check out the listings for more opportunities to get fit by doing good!

Sarah Benthall earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.

Sarah completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Sarah was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

Running for RAMM!

Exeter Report written by Klara Kjellgren

This was out second Community Mission this week getting RAMMuseum activity packs delivered to shielding families! AMAZING work team!

It's been a blustery week with lots of heavy downpours here in Exeter but nothing could stop our super keen GoodGymers from getting fit whilst doing good! We had a fantastic collections of runs, walks and bike rides to get the pack delivered to different families all over Exeter and Exminster.

All deliveries where carried out in a safe way, following the government's current guidelines. In total we had 7 GoodGymers involved in this task, but all runners did their deliveries in solo sessions and at no time where all runners gathered together in a big group.

Lucy and Jo clocked some pretty impressive bike rides to do their deliveries, Florence ran all over St Thomas and the very hilly Exwick for hers and Sarah struggled through a huge rain storm. Fantastic effort!

A huge thank you to RAMM who put together these packs, Exeter Wellbeing who contacted us to see if we could help out with the delivery and to the Westbank who helped us find the families who can benefit from the packs!

Next week we are heading out again, this time to do a litterpick in Wonford. I can't wait to see you then!

Pass The Baton On Your Lefthand Side!

Exeter Report written by Klara Kjellgren

This week 16 runners had the best of times passing a virtual baton around our group!

The relay started on Monday morning and over the week we saw a fantastic selection of different runs! Here are a few of them:

  • Lucy went for a birthday run! Yay! Hope you had a great day!

  • Sam did some wild Dartmoor running! Amazing views!

  • Craig and Florence ran on the hottest day of the year so far! Brilliant effort in the heat!

  • Lizzi did an 8 k charity run, raising money and awareness for Help Refugees #chooselove

  • Helen ran 30 laps up and down the same street as she is shielding whilst waiting for her dad’s surgery in a couple of weeks

We also had the best selection of batons ever!

  • Real baguettes filled with ham and cheese

  • 3-4 dogs (I lost count!)

  • Spades

  • Gin&tonics

  • Beers

  • Twigs and branches

Absolutely brilliant! I totally loved seeing all you got up to! After two and half months of not running as a group our community as runners who do good and have fun is still going so strong! So much GG love!

Next week we are back doing joint community missions and I can’t tell you how excited I am about it! We will be maximum 6 people at each mission and work with plenty of space between us at all times. Take a look at the listings here.

For fitness next week go out and smash your favorite run, post a picture of it on twitter, Instagram or Facebook with the text “This week we run for the Westbank and for Global's Make Some Noise”. All to raise awareness of two brilliant charities! Sign up here to join!
