Two Girls One Glove

Norwich Report written by Steven Hitcham

We had a visitor at the start of the evening tonight as Liz from NUA gave a little talk about a project in Winterton we might be able to get involved in as a Community Mission one weekend. If you have any questions about that please me know.

A slightly different set up tonight as myself and Katy have got to rest injuries so I led the run on my bicycle and Katy led the walking group. Bill and Andy shared back runner duties.

We welcomed Kathryn on her 1st GoodGym experience this evening.

Sarah and Dave Thomson have now completed 25 good deeds, fantastic effort both of you!

Tonight's run/walk (or in my case cycle) was about 1.5km each-way as we visited Silver Road Community Centre to do some weeding that had grown during the summer.

As there was a lot of us I paired everyone up and set a little relay challenge where one person would run while the other does some weeding and then they change over one the runner gets back. It avoided me having to add a fitness session in at the end ;-)

There was a slight shortage on the glove front. I know you've been intrigued as to what the pun refers to... well know you can work it out.

There were a lot of weeds but the 30+ GoodGymers pulled up the whole lot and it looked fantastic afterwards... despite me forgetting to take before and after photos.

There's a social event this Friday. For Darren's birthday there will be drinks at 8pm at The Rumsey Wells.

Next week we're visiting The Hamlet Children's Centre.

Waterloo? We thought we'd Abba go at gardening there and wow wow wow wow did we get a lot done

Norwich Report written by Steven Hitcham

Another week of warm, sunny weather and another great turnout.

We had 4 new GoodGymers so a big welcome to Jonathan, Raffaella, Jennifer and Kevin.*

Elliot was completing his 25th good deed!

Andy and Helen shared back runner duties with the latter also being responsible for photography.

Darren was walk leader.

Tonight we were visiting the lovely Waterloo Park and were greeted by Jean and her great team of volunteers who look after the gardens there. I was sure to remind people to say "Hi Jean" on arrival... if only there was a Vera to say "Aloe" to and a Primrose to say "Evening" to as well.

We had a Community Mission here several weeks back and it's great to see the flower bed that we cleared has now been planted with lovely flowers and plants. It's not that often we get the chance to see the final outcome of our hard work.

There were plenty more flower beds that we had the task of clearing out this evening so the team assembled with tools (we had a whole array of them to pick from) and went off to get stuck in. There was also a group edging the existing flower beds and some others weeding them.

By the end of the evening we had cleared the the remaining overgrown flower beds, once they have been planted the gardens will look phenomenal. It has a real community feel about it and some of the local children are growing sunflowers in one of the other flower beds.

I look forward to going to have a look later in the summer to see how pretty it is.

Next week we're doing a litter pick on Marriott's Way.

We slowly wormed our way in before bracken a sweat

Norwich Report written by Steven Hitcham

Despite a lot of the group either doing Run Norwich or attending a heavy stag-do over the weekend, we had a fantastic turnout for the hottest run of the year so far.

Joel was on his final outing with us before moving to Malaysia for 3 years, I'm sure none of us will be jealous at all ;-)

As one door closes for one it opens for others as Hannah and Alice were on their 1st GoodGym encounter.

Emily was walk leader and Hayley was back runner and photographer.

We had another new task this week as we visited Mousehold Heath, a nice hilly 2.75km each-way jog/walk.

Will, the warden, met us there with an array of pitchforks, rakes and gloves. The task was to clear as much over grown bracken as possible as this prevents wild flowers and wildlife such as slow worms from getting enough light and sun that they require to survive. The prime example of this is when Hayley found a Slow Worm (see the inspiration for the pun now?) Will was very excited as he hadn't seen one there for 2 years as they are on the decline. With GoodGym Norwich clearing a lot or areas, creatures like these will continue to thrive.

With the size of the pile of bracken we collated you'd think all we need was a Guy Fawkes to go on top of it.

Next week we're visiting Waterloo Park.

The tale of the Hoe & Rabbit - batteries included

Norwich Report written by Steven Hitcham

After the GoodGym BBQ yesterday, a few of us were wanting to get out and burn off a few calories but what a fantastic afternoon it was and thank you to all those that were able to make it.

This evening's run was to visit Catton Grove Community Centre as this time of year their bushes are prone to be overgrown so our task was to keep it all trim and looking nice.

We had two new runners this week in the lovely couple Ryan & Annie.

A few milestones too with Andy & Kate completing their 25th good deeds and Dave Tuthill completing his 25th good deed :-)

Hayley was photographer and what a great one she is.

Elizabeth was backrunner outbound and Bill inbound.

Linda met us on arrival and talked us through the areas that needed trimming back, the main focus being in front on the community mural. We had plenty of tools to use such as hoes, shears, loppers, rakes, spades and forks.

Andy may have found the most bizarre item on a GoodGym run to date... a rabbit (not the animal kind) complete with batteries. Safe to say it wasn't going to be recycled.

In the half an hour we had, loads got done and we even had time for 5 minutes of fun in the park :-)

Next week we're having a games night at The Hamlet Centre.
