Pippa A done 100 good deeds with GoodGym.

Pippa has just reached another level: 100 good deeds with GoodGym. That's at least 100 times when they could have easily done something easier. But they didn't, Pippa has kept going and going. Helping a lot of other people and getting a bit fitter at the same time. Congratulations Pippa.

Rake it to make it

Hounslow Report written by Anastasia Hancock (she/her)

It was a night of hellos, farewells and celebrations last night at GoodGym Hounslow!

First off we welcomed Gus to his first session - so great to have you join us. Sadly we also learned that it was to be Maddy's last session with us (for now) as she's returning to sunnier lands. We'll miss you Maddy, send us an invite when you get GoodGym Brisbane off the ground!

We were also bidding a sad goodbye to Pippa, who is off to join GoodGym Brighton, but not before she made a perfectly timed exit with her 100th good deed. Great to see you'll be taking your wings tshirt with you, and come back and visit soon!

With so much going on we had a big group for the evening, which was just as well as we had a big task to match! After a warm up we set off for Gunnersbury park, where we were helping the wardens there clear some areas where brambles had been cut down to make way for grass and trees.

We soon claimed our fleet of wheelbarrow, donned the thick gloves provided to deal with the spiky brambles, and headed off into the dark to find our job for the evening.

The machines the park had used to clear the areas had left loads of cut brambles which they had asked us to tidy up, so we set to it. Talking about the races of the past weekend (well done Harvey, Alan and Steph!) we filled ton bags full of debris, only pausing to gently move a giant bumble bee who had made a home in it.

After a good stint we moved all the bags over to the path and made our way back to base. I've already had an email from the park warden Lizzy thanking the team for your hard work, so well done for all the efforts.

Next week we have a new task helping to tidy up a community centre's outside space. Hope to see you there!

QParkRun: A Tale of Two Tails

Ealing Report written by Sevan

Joanna was so excited this morning that she'd woken up as a football! QPR were visiting Acton Junior parkrun, which meant lots of children, as many as would normally take part in the summer months. After Joanna's call for help with the event, lots of GoodGymers came too. 13 of them, plus a group from parkrun Poland!

No one was really sure what to expect and it all looked quite low key until Jude, one of the QPR mascots, appeared before the warm up. Not only did they show up, but they took part along with the other warm up leaders.

All around the course, our GoodGym volunteers were hoping to catch a glimpse of Jude rushing past them, on the way to a 4 leg powered Junior parkrun record (is that allowed?!). Michelle, Chris, Florian, Alan, Pippa, Steph Ducat and Johhny were all keeping an eye our from their marshal posts. It turned out that Jude was too old to run the course as they've been the QPR mascot for over 14 years, so only Chikako as the VI Guide and Harvey as the tail walker were out on the course with the runners. In the funnel area, we had Lucy, Kash, and Sevan, while Joanna led the first timers welcome.

Everything was going to plan as the 61 participants set off around the course. Then, half way around, Harvey seemed to lose his bearings and went off track. A little later, he was back on the tail of the last runner, or so he thought. A couple more minutes passed, then Michelle ran past trying to find Harvey. The boy who'd taken a loo break and was assumed to have dropped out was back in the parkrun. Cue confusion and Harvey returning to the other tail of the field.

After possibly the longest Junior parkrun ever, 31:51 with a pit stop, QPR had arranged for some fun at the finish. Jude was high fiving runners into the funnel, managing to confuse a few of them who stopped before the finish line. Then, there were some games to play and merch to be given out too.

After parkrun, some GoodGymers were seen wearing their new blue and white scarves as everyone went for coffee to congratulate Sevan on reaching 600 good deeds and to eat Michelle's fabulous lemon drizzle cake.

Peel or No Peel?

Richmond Report written by Lucy Hill

We were back at AFC Heatham House on Monday night. One of our regular group tasks, we would often visit to help do all sorts for the local youth club, which supports children and young people in the Twickenham area. Danielle the youth leader often gets us doing all sorts, from attacking bindweed to clearing cupboards and tonight we waited to see what mystery mission we had in store!

The kitchen had been donated a load of food, including lots of fresh fruit and veg. Sadly, fresh fruit goes off quickly and our job for the night was to prepare the pickings so they could be frozen and then easily used for meals in the future - tasty curries, apple crumbles, banana cake…

We set up a production line, with T, Kate and Rebecca doing a peely great job at taking the skins off the orchard fruits; followed by a right pair with the pears of Sam and Liz, who were on chopping and bagging duties. Elsewhere, Adam and Pippa had a ketchup as they sliced juicy tomatoes. All of this was pear-fully overseen by Lucy, who as always had gone a bit bananas with the puns and then punny with the bananas.

Meanwhile, Steph, Chris and Suze were helping clean a serving station which had been living in a cupboard downstairs for some time. They apple-y got their hands dirty scrubbing down the metal and glasswork, til it was almost good as new.

Another grape job done by GoodGym Richmond at Heatham House, and doesn’t it peel good! Danielle thanked us for our ripe food work, and we left down the apple and pears to head off back home!
