Caught sitting down on the job!

Bath Report written by Sam Ollason

6 GoodGym runners ran to The Orchard, a sheltered living space in Combe Down. We gave the staff and residents some really appreciated help doing these manual tasks. The furniture we built can now be used by the residents to enjoy the stunning views and it is also a fantastic place for family and friends to sit when they visit.

We managed to assemble a whopping 11 garden chairs and 2 large garden tables in our time there. We worked in pairs to create the chairs - the hardest part was making tightening the bolts to make sure the arms were solid and stable! We then all worked together to create the two big tables.

Thanks in particular to Mary for helping to source and organise this task with us with the others at The Orchard. We look forward to coming back soon!

Happy Birthday to us - The Runners Up!

Bath Report written by Bath runner

A great evening was spent at our usual end of the month pub quiz at The Boater, combined with our 3rd birthday celebrations!

Happy birthday to us!

Thanks to Mary, Mark, Sam and Dan for coming and showing your support for GoodGym Bath (and soaking up the £20 bar tab!)

Team 'Runners Up' were actually runners up?! Magic...

Congratulations on a well deserved 2nd place - our knowledge knows no limits (ish) and our artistic skills rival the greats! Another £20 bar tab in the back pocket for next month.

Thanks to everyone who has run with GoodGym Bath over the last 3 years. To Steph, our fabulous Trainer for almost the entire time! Our lovely Task Force. Our Coach Runners. Our new Coordinators. You're all amazing people who do amazing work in your local community!

Long may we continue to spread the GoodGym love!

The Crate Escape!

Bath Report written by Sam Ollason

17 of us ran to St Mary’s Church where Bath FoodCycle are based. We formed a long human chain to clear the contents of the cupboards and draws in their kitchen. We then ran round to the Royal Crescent and did some extra fitness exercises.

Welcome Lily!

There was a great turnout at this task. We all met outside the Leisure Centre (deciding that soon we may have to meet inside instead!) and welcomed a new runner, Lily. It was also great to see some runners returning after their first runs last week. It’s great to have you as part of the GoodGym community!

Well done Joe!

Well done to Joe for an incredible PB on the previous weekend at the Cardiff Half. And a quick shout-out to those who have started their training for the Bath Half marathon next year - keep it up!

After a quick warm-up and headcount we took a route through town and passed the beautiful architecture of The Circus. We arrived at St Mary’s Church on time to meet our host Carol.

Carol introduced the organisation to us. FoodCycle are based at the church and use their facilities. They receive donated surplus food from supermarkets and use their creative skills to create a 3-course meal once per week. The meal is completely free for anyone to come and enjoy. It is a great way for isolated people to be part of a community and it can provide a healthy meal for those facing financial hardship. The organisation is entirely volunteer-led and we were keen to help out fellow volunteers!

Crate idea

The kitchen in the church is getting completely refurbished very soon, and our task was to clear all the cups, plates, pots and pans out of the cupboards. We formed a human chain to pass the items along to the church hall where the kitchenware was piled into crates, ready for storage. In the end we filled 20 crates! Our host, Carol, was incredibly impressed with the work we did and wants us to come back again in the near future.

Jump in the air like ya just don’t care

Because we worked so hard we finished our task earlier than expected. Never ones to shy away from exercise, we looped around to the Royal Crescent where we got into a big circle and did some group exercises. This included some squats, jumping lunges and skipping.

Thanks to Joe for the pun this week and thanks to Emma for backmarking for us!

These chairs keep coming out of the woodwork!

Bath Report written by Sam Ollason

As the leaves on the trees start to turn brown, 19 runners ran along the river path to St John's Court to paint some outdoor furniture. This was a shorter run meaning we could spend even more time improving our painting skills!

Welcome Mark, Alicia, Ali and Ruth!

We met at our usual spot outside the Leisure Centre. We welcomed 4 new runners to the group tonight: Mark, Alicia, Ali and Ruth. The runners came to find out more about GoodGym and quickly got involved and became part of the team.

Well done Mary on 150!!!!!!

A big "WELL DONE" to Mary, one of the original GoodGym Bath team, on achieving a massive 150 good deeds!

Great job Allie!

Also a massive shout out to Allie who has just racked up 25 good deeds. Keep up the good work!

We ran along the river Avon and got to our task quickly. St John's Court is a sheltered housing service for older people. The team there provide a supportive and social environment where people can maintain their indepedence while also being part of a larger community. There is a large outdoor decking space where residents can relax and enjoy the sunshine. It is also the perfect spot for friends and family to sit when they visit.

We have been to help them out before 2 months ago and this was the second part of a larger task to improve their garden furniture.

Paint by numbers

A number of us broke into small teams to paint the wooden chairs a delicate cream colour. We were painting the front, back, sides and seat to make sure the chairs looked new and fresh. Also, the paint will provide useful resistance to the winter weather in a few months time.

Brushing up on our painting skills

Other runners split into teams to improve some large wooden tables with some calming eggshell blue paint. These are used all the time and we gave them a new lease of life with our brushwork.

No paint no gain

Chris and some of the residents kindly provided us with some juice to give us a sugar boost. After the break we found another 4 chairs to paint! We got stuck into the challenge and worked hard to make sure we left on time!

Woodn't you believe it

Overall we managed to paint a whopping 18 chairs and finished painting the 2 large tables. Chris and her team were incredibly pleased with what we achieved for them. She was particularly impressed by how enthusiastic and energetic we were and has requested we come back soon to help the team put up their Christmas Decorations. Fingers crossed we can arrange this - keep a lookout on the run listings!

Thanks to Dan and Emma for backmarking for us tonight. And thanks to Emma and Mark for tonight's pun!
