Madiha has done a 6 month mission streak. Sat 15 Jan 2022

Madiha just completed a six month streak of doing missions. That’s so many bags of garden rubbish cleared and jobs done to help someone out and put a smile on their face. Give Madiha a cheer to encourage them to keep up the good work.

Gunnersbury parkrun volunteer takeover - Let's fill the roster with GoodGymers!

Sat 15 Jan

On Saturday 15th January we're hoping to fill all the volunteer roles at Gunnersbury parkrun with GoodGymers!

We'll need quite a few volunteers on the day and there's a good mix of things to choose from, please note some roles still allow you to still run if you're really keen to still take part in the event itself as well as volunteering.

Click here to add yourself to the volunteer spreadsheet.

If you're new to parkrun you'll need to register beforehand (for both running and volunteering), click here to get yourself signed up. It's free, fun and I guarantee you'll love it!

So in a nutshell, come down, get involved with parkrun and help this wonderful community of runners!

  • Most volunteer voles for parkrun will need to be in Gunnersbury at 8:30am (some earlier, please check your role time on the spreadsheet)

  • We meet at the top of the park you can see the start point here on the Gunnersbury parkrun course page - look for the group of high vis heroes!

  • If you're running parkrun, it starts at 9am but come for 8:45am to be safe

  • Don't forget your barcode if you're running - no barcode, no time!

  • After we're done we'll likely head to the cafe somewhere to be decided on the day so stick around!

Hope to see lots of you there!

Food Waste Warriors

Sat 2 Oct
Report written by Chris

A group of Goodgymers visited City Harvest to help sort donated food into boxes for distribution, and even wiped a few of the boxes that got caught in the rain! A very rewarding morning and was great to return to City Harvest.

Help sort surplus food and fight against food waste with City Harvest

Sat 2 Oct 10:00 am
Unit 8 Acton Park Estate, Acton, W3 7QE
Be a food waste warrior and help feed people who need it

Time for our monthly community mission to help City Harvest!

WHAT IS CITY HARVEST?

City Harvest helps put surplus food to good use in a sustainable way by distributing to organisations around London that feed the hungry. By volunteering with City Harvest for a couple of hours on your weekend, you will make a direct positive impact on thousands of vulnerable people in London. Because of your efforts, these people - who face obstacles including food poverty, homelessness, domestic abuse and the need to flee from their homelands – will have access to a nutritious meal. The food that is rescued would have gone to landfill where it would have released harmful greenhouse gases as it decomposed. So your days’ work will make a tremendous difference to both people and the planet!

WHAT TO EXPECT

For the task you'll be volunteering as a warehouse assistant where you will help unload food deliveries, sort food, check food, and do other general warehouse jobs to help in the day-to-day running of City Harvest.

Please dress sensibly for the day as it will involve lifting and organising trays of food. Wearing closed shoes is advisable. We will provide you with high visibility jackets and any other safety clothing.

WHERE TO MEET

The site is in Acton (Unit 8, Acton Park Industrial Estate, Acton, W3 7QE) and as always with GoodGym we encourage you to use the power of your legs to get you there! Upon arrival, please make your way onto the industrial estate and follow the signs to Unit 8. The main entrance is via Eastman Road off of The Vale.

The task is set from 10am-12pm so please stay for as long as you can, you if want to come a bit earlier they are there for volunteers from 9am!
