RAKING IT IN

A beautiful evening for a FANTASTIC 13 at Goodgym Bath tonight for a 5.4k run out to Royal Victoria Park and tonight's task to Rake the sand and litter pick along the way .

A very warm welcome tonight to Lydia who will be leading Goodgym Bournemouth when it launches very soon , she did a sterling job of getting everyone signed and delivering the welcome speech to the group .

After a warm welcome to SIX new faces Joe,Claire,Rachel,Sarah,Kirsty and Mary. We made headway with a bit of flyering on route for a pro refugees event being held at the Guildhall on Saturday .

We took advantage to re group a few times and had quiet a crowd joining in our triceps dips along the way in Kingsmead square before the final stretch taking us into the Marlborough lane entrance.

No time to waste (pardon the pun) litter pickers and rakes handed out the group soon got to work and before we knew it time was up , so not even a chance for a quick play around before our group photo .

To be FAIR with the entire park litter picked and sand raked throughout and the busy skate park having a clean sweep there wasn't much time for anything so without further a do we packed up and made our way back to the leisure centre for a stretch out and reminder to bring your ID if you wish to be paired up with your very own Coach .

Thank you Rachel for tonight's pun and everyone for being amazing people .

A Happy Birthday to Lara for the weekend .

Aurevoir to Kenta who is going home to Japan , we will miss you !!! Charles do Bath Half and he will return to join us .

Finally a HUGE thanks to Pascale for covering me whilst reaching the half way point in my life, she did me proud .

Flying the Nest

Five a side tonight at Goodgym Bath for a 7k group run out to The Nest project which provide new and second hand good quality clothing and equipment for 0-5years completely free of charge and is available to anyone in BANES who needs it regardless of income faith or background.

A very warm welcome tonight to Jaxx who was along for her first run with Goodgym and although we seemed a little thin on the ground tonight, probably due to the Football and the fact that Glastonbury festival opens its gates in the morning.

We set off for the long but flat run out to our task with Beth kindly offering to lead on this one with Steph back marking for our small but perfectly formed group a chance for a regroup in the form of our favourite squats and a few traffic lights but a beautiful evening for this run with a chance for the odd stretch along the river.

The group soon arrived at our location to be welcomed by our lovely hosts Philippa and Joanna and after a debrief about The Nest project, Jo was quick to get the group organised sorting baby clothes into gender and age ready to be put into storage to make giving them out much easier. there were a lot of coos to be heard in the nest.

Vito soon found himself WINGMAN for the night although I think he was a bit optimistic as was Kenta who was a MINION miles away from that vest fitting him. Jaxx however was getting into the festive spirit even if a bit premature, whilst Beth was feeling peckish with her COOKIE MONSTER t-shirt. There was even a chance for the lads to have a little go with some NICE WHEELS after they had given them a clean up with a little service.

30 minutes later and with a table full of neatly folded clothes and nice clean wheels it was time to say goodbye to our hosts and head back along the river with a farewell to Kenta who was peeling off home to catch the final part of the Germany match, while the rest of the group made our way back towards the leisure centre arriving in the nick of time for a well deserved stretch. Thank you all for making tonight even though its wall to wall football at the moment and if you wish to be paired up remember to bring your ID along to the next group run.

The Nest project are looking for baby equipment in particular at the moment so if you can help get in touch or go along on a Friday between 10-2pm http://www.thenestproject.co.uk/

"Oh give me land, lots of land under starry skies, DO fence me in.."

13 was definitely a lucky number for us tonight. After a dynamic warm-up our Goodgym runners had the best of the weather and got to appreciate a selection of Bath architectural landmarks whilst delivering fliers for the Julian House 'Barber of Seville' production to properties throughout the Circus and the Royal Crescent pausing to enjoy the views over a set of squats and lunges as we re-grouped.

Hopefully it was a fitting introduction to both Goodgym and Bath for Claire who came on her first group run tonight having arrived in the city a mere six weeks ago, it's a wonderful place to explore on foot so we look forward to showing off more sights on future runs. A big thank you to Bethan too for bringing Jason to join us, we soon showed him how warm running to get fit and do good can be that he took advantage of us passing his pad and dropped of his coat!

Pascale made her leader debut tonight under the supportive and watchful eye of Steph who didn't rest on her laurels but took up position of back marker and relished getting stuck in to the tasks in hand. After a bit of group guidance on directions en route the group arrived at our run destination of Vegmead, a guerilla gardening initiative which has transformed an underused flower bed in to a thriving and colourful community vegetable garden in Hedgemead Park. Following an introduction to Transition Bath by our fabulous hosts Virginia, Adam and Jodi they set out the list of tasks they wanted us to undertake so we quickly broke off in to groups and sprang in to action like a well oiled Goodgym doing good machine.

John and Joe gave it a good go (with a hoe, hoe, hoe!), Sam and Kenta got the tool shed sorted and then got stuck in to weeding with Rob and Rosie, Cosmo and Steph opted for a brisk walk and an upper body workout filling up and carrying the watering cans back up hill to us ready to replenish the water butt.

Bethan, Jason, Sarah and Claire really proved that many hands make light work as they installed the boundary fence around Vegmead. Adam told us of the massive difference that he had seen Goodgym runners make in other tasks we have been involved in around Bath and was chuffed at all we achieved through our joint efforts tonight.

Food Group Convenor Virginia was equally delighted and extended an open invitation for us all to join them for a social evening on Friday 24th June at 6:30pm at the Community Nuttery in Smallcombe (bring food & drink to share & to cook on the campfire if you like)

Time to pack up and grab a group photo against a beautiful backdrop before bidding our Goodgym goodbyes and taking the short cut back to base, pausing for some star-jumps and a little trip down memory lane as Steph pointed out the home that her family previously lived in. A final lap past the weir along the river completed our 4.4km run ending with a Rocky-esque romp up the steps arms outstretched and ready for the cool down, before bidding farewell and going our separate ways. (Which for Kenta and Sam was off to the pub to watch the Portugal vs Iceland game!)

Thank you all for coming tonight, have a fantastic week and for those who want to get involved with Goodgym Coach Runs and one-off Missions please make sure you bring along your ID and proof of residence documents to the next Group Run ready to be checked so that the DBS process can get underway.

Great run report Pascale and brilliant job as leader !!

A flyer on the wall

Almost too HOT TO TROT at Goodgym Bath but my trusty 10 came to the rescue and BOY were we on a mission tonight with a combination of two tasks, A bit of Flyering on the way to Manvers Baptist church (just because we can) for our main task to start prepping The Widcombe Room for painting. I can safely say an enjoyable 4k run.

A debrief and headcount armed with flyers for Julian house to get the word out for THE BARBER OF SEVILLE from The Garden opera company to be held at Prior park college on July 7th, more info and in aid of Julian house http://bathboxoffice.org.uk/whatson/rossinis-the-barber-of-seville-by-the-garden-opera-company-at-prior-park-college-in-aid-of-julian-house-2/ That was part one tonight.

We arrived at Manvers Baptist church to be greeted by Peter (our host) who quickly had the group organised in 'The Widcombe room' which is used to host many community groups for the residents of Bath. We commenced to wash down the walls with sugar soap and the rinse with nice cold clear water with Ali and Kenta scrapping away the flaky paint and filling holes so we are ready to paint THAT ROOM GREEN on our next visit. It really was A ROOM WITH A VIEW.

After 35 minutes it was time to grab a group photo and say goodbye to Peter and head back to the leisure centre to stretch those muscles and catch up on all that's going on next week at Goodgym Bath.

Thank you to Miriam for back marking and Ali for tonight's pun and look forward to seeing you all very soon. You really do keep me sane.

It`s the end of the path but we had a laugh

It was certainly a soggy and sad affair for our 16 Goodgym runners for part 2 out to Bathampton for the NOT SO... Dry arch growers this evening taking the 8k route along the kennet and Avon canal. Some of our runners will be saying Goodbye tonight as they graduate and move on along Life's rich path.

A very warm welcome tonight to Lara and Graeme showing they are made of Mighty stuff for their first Goodgym run with a good distance and hefty task ahead with the promise of heavy rain, they soon got stuck in and made light work of both and with a smile.

After a headcount and intro to everything good at Goodgym we headed out along the canal with a light refreshing rain to help us along our way and a chance for a re group in the shape of squats and walking lunges to get those legs nice and strong. we arrived at the task where our two lovely hosts Phil and Jan were to greet us. Steph dished out the gloves and Ali had time to change into his old shoes before the heavens opened on us, in fact it was the wettest run I've done since Westminster.

Barrows and spades galore with the team splitting into three groups Alex and Rosie starting at the far end of the Path and soon joined by the others as those barrows of bark came rolling along. Graeme taking the lead of BARROW BOYS and Hermione showing the lads what lasses are made of .... STRONG STUFF with the rest of Goodgym Bath shovelling the bark into those barrows managing to avoid covering each other in bark although it was very close at times.

Working like clockwork tonight with shuttle runs and shovelling fun along the way the team soon made light work of the task and finished the job in 25 minutes , just showing how much you can achieve in a short space of time. we even had time to leave the remaining bark chips in a tidy pile.

Time to pack up and grab a group photo along our finished path before saying Goodbye and heading back along the canal with a little bit of looping back for the energetic ones before arriving back at the leisure centre for a soggy stretch out.

Thank you all for coming tonight, you really smashed both run and task in very wet conditions. Best wishes to our students who made this their final Bath run, we couldn`t have got where we are today without you. Thanks Pascale for kindly back marking.
