(Leaf)lets get together and feel alright

Coventry Report written by Laura Denham

8 Goodgymers made it out for Myton tonight to deliver leaflets, advertising 2 Myton events going on this year.

5 of us met at Coventry Boys and Girls club then took a steady jog over to Spencer Park where we met 3 more of the group who made their own way there. We split into 2 group to try and cover more ground and ventured around the streets of Earlsdon dropping leaflets and checking out the handsome doors along the way. The pile went down quickly and we managed to shift 513 leaflets in 55 minutes, nice one gang!

On the way back into town we managed some fartlek training between the trees and then a meet and retreat around Greyfriars Green. Following that we took a slow run back to CBGC.

Shout out to James for his 50 good deeds tonight, you can now claim your black belt in Goodgyming :)

Tree-mendous effort!

Coventry Report written by Laura Denham

7 GoodGymers joined the small army of volunteers for Day 2 of the Christmas tree collection to help raise money for Myton Hospice and Pass the smile for Ben. What a morning to be out, the weather was beautiful!

Jackie, Vickie and Laura arrived at 9 ready for a briefing and to be directed to our station where our role was to unload the vans. Graeme, James, Katherine and Nigel were out in the vans collecting the discarded Christmas trees covering Leamington, Rugby, long Lawton and Binley Woods.

The vans arrived steadily where they were emptied by the main organiser's of the event. Jackie, Vickie and Laura then dragged the Christmas trees to the pile, ready for their impending doom. There were lots of trips backwards and forwards and some of those trees were heavy so a real all over body work out.

Jackie and Laura left at lunch time so we didn't manage to catch Katherine and Nigel, their van was so big to fill they didn't manage to get back to base until after lunchtime. They did amazing and managed to collect 51 trees in total!

James and Greame managed a fairly incident free trip apart from the van door jamming and they couldnt open it! Graeme sorted it - phew - and the van had to be repacked, strapping the trees to the roof in the dark.

After completing a wholes days shift, Vickie managed to rack up just over 7.5 miles - wowzers!

Give yourselves a pat on the back, you all did amazing! It was a great day, we had a laugh and met some lovely people and in total the team collected a whopping 1250 trees - woo hoo!

Good luck tomorrow Vickie and Graeme on round 2! They have also sent the sign up form for next year already, who is in?!

We're on the case

Coventry Report written by Laura Denham

Brrrr that was a cold one! Given the bitter temperatures, it was a great turn out with a merry band of 10 GoodGymers to help out at Clothing Coventry.

Jackie and Sharon set off for a brisk walk while the rest of us tried to warm up quickly before on starting our run. We were looking forward to get going to heat up a bit as it really was the coldest its been all winter so far.

We arrived to discover that finally, the new warehouse has materialised and the great garment migration had commenced! It's located directly opposite the old warehouse, so only a short hop over the road. The aim is to use this bigger space for storage and the smaller one as a shop to make it a more pleasant experience for the customers.

The plan was to use the electric van to transport the majority of the clothing over. We started by emptying the van of the bags and cases, which were ready to deliver to hotels, and replaced this with items from the old warehouse to take to the new. Forming a human chain we passed the bags and sacks from inside to the van with Lil getting into the back of the van to drag the bags on board. We all grabbed what we could carry and then scurried across the road over to unload at the new location.

Once we arrived at the other side and unloaded, we then made our way back to repeat the process. We managed to do this 3 times and cleared a few shelves and rails from the original warehouse. The new premises is big but wow, it is filling up quick!

The team worked so well together and it all went seamlessly, we even had time to do a speed sort of the school wear before we left. We moved such a lot of stuff in a short space of time so well done everyone!

Clothing Coventry have a mammoth task ahead of them to get those warehouses sorted so we will be assisting them as much as we can with this and will be returning at the end of the month.

Not a Christmas Podding in sight

Coventry Report written by Laura Denham

We celebrated Christmas with a meal at the Pod hosted by our friends at Food Union. It was an absolutely delicious home cooked menu that everyone enjoyed. As it was a shared table event we didn't all get to sit together but it meant we got to chat to new people and we also got to listen some music by a band also dining at the cafe. It was a very filling menu and we all left feeling rather stuffed. Some headed home afterwards but the rest of us mooched up to metropolis to meet James and Suzanne for some after dinner drinks.

Such a lovely evening it was great to see you all.

Merry Christmas and happy new year! Looking forward to seeing you in 2024 :)
